Fender Mustang Club

Hey groovy guys and gals, I sold my JMJ Mustang and have finally purchased what I've always considered to be my DREAM bass guitar...a Rickenbacker 4003S in Jetglo!
I won't be visiting this thread, so I leave it to someone else to take up the mantle of maintaining the list:

I'm thinking of getting one because, among other reasons, I am dealing with carpal tunnel in my left had. Are they easier to play than a 34" scale?

I used to find the muscles in my fingers would hurt and also in my forearm after a gig: we typically play 2 1/2 hour gigs of 2 sets, with fairly energetic bass lines for my ability. I sometimes found myself cramping as well in my fingers, but advice no other threads suggested that could be stretching and dehydration.I’d started with a Jazz then moved to a Ric. I’d suspected scale could be part of the problem and tried out the Mustang: I’m hooked. It’s not just the scale, the slightly lower string tension means less effort to actually depress the strings. I’ve not had the same issues since switching; I also keep off beer during gigs and limber up my arms beforehand

Yes. That's exactly why I'm working on getting used to my PJ Mustang. Or will when I get it back from the mod-man.

Slight edit - it wasn't carpal tunnel that drove my search for an easier way to play bass, but a more serious case of tendinitis in both hands. That has been (mostly) resolved now, but as I get even more decrepit I want to be ready... can't imagine a life without bass - and I don't mean the fish.

Hey everyone! I just picked up a brand new Fender Mustang in Olympic White. Digging the sound for the most part and the bass plays like butter. I have rheumatoid arthritis, so I thought that having a short scale around for days when my hands hurt badly might be a good thing.

I was thinking of changing the pickups to EMG Geezers or Basslines though.

Has anyone done away with the three-way switch and replaced it with a tone knob so that the controls would be V/V/T? Just curious if anyone has tried this yet?

Lots of cool Mustangs on this thread! Here’s mine!

Thanks! Any thoughts on the neck? There certainly don’t seem to be Mustang aftermarket Pups around so I’m guessing they’re just standard all round
Yes, I've got the regular Seymour Duncan SPB-3 for P-Bass pickups in my Mustang PJ. The person I got it from had already put them in so don't know how they compare to the stock ones, but can say it sounds great.
