Yeah, when I bought my MIJ Reissue, the plan was to flip it for a profit - but I ended up liking it so much that I kept it... It really sits in a mix way better than I would've imagined...

What benefit would there be, since I have SD 1/4 lb pickups in my PJ, in going from 250k pots to 500k pots? SD recommends 250k pots for the 1/4 lb pups to maintain a deeper tone. Also I believe they recommend a .045u cap instead of the .05u cap that comes stock in the PJ.
I am not sure I quite get it except that it might give a slightly brighter tone when using flats.

I've ordered a selection of Pots and Caps. I bought another Jag SS (#2) and bought a set of used DM Area PJs for it. I thinks I might build me a little external box so I can play with Pots and Cap without taking the bass apart to change them out.
As soon as I get some time I'm going to defret my Jag SS #1, but work has been really busy.

From a distance your mute might be mistaken for a Carol Kaye felt mute. :bassist:

I read something recently that says that when you install some sort of muting device, you need to make sure that you don't displace the strings too much, by pushing them up or down, as it will through the intonation out. Has anyone encountered this.

Yes, it doesn't go out much with this but it sometimes is a tiny bit sharp. Works well on gigs though. For recording if I use it I tune with the mute on. And yes, Carol Kaye's felt mute gave me this idea but I have it on and off depending on the song and I'm using weather stripping as the mute, the strap is just a way to hold it.

I used to put a strip of foam under the strings at the bridge, and yes it threw out the intonation which was obvious at the first rehearsal I had with it in. It didn't occur to me to reset the intonation after I did it. Only really a problem if you use it just for some songs as you can reset your intonation with it in. How big an effect will depend on how thick the foam is, so may not be an issue to worry about.

To be honest, I was mostly using the foam as my muting wasn't very good, and as I've got a bit better at that I don't really use it any more. With Chromes and turning the tone down I'm getting enough 60s thump without it.

That drop D tuner is the Hipshot BT10 correct? Is it a direct drop in? Can you use the existing ferrule from the stock tuner? I am thinking of ordering one for my PJ.

Yes, bt10. It says it is for the made in Japan basses but was confirmed on TB to be a direct fit and that was true. I don’t remember if I used the existing ferrule or the one that came with it, but it was a perfect fit that took about 2 minutes to install.

Just put this killer Deco Boom pickguard on the mustang! I think it looks pretty sharp!

I want to try a set of half rounds on my Mustang, and after an exhaustive search, the only ones I've found that are the correct scale are the D'Addario ENR71M, which are light guage. I have medium gauge strings on it now (D'Addario nickle wounds) and would prefer not to drop to lights. Does anyone know of a half round that comes in medium or medium light guage, or is this my only option?
