Fender Nate Mendel P-Bass

They are going for around $1100 here in Australia. A MIM Standard goes for $750-$800.
If I were to buy one, it would be because it comes with a BAII and Quarter-Pounders, which would add up to $180-$200 if I bought them separately. Then add another $100 for my local repair guy to install them (and most importantly, do a better job than me).
So, if I were in the market for a Precision with a BAII and SPB3s, a new, preloaded bass wouldn't be a bad option. I'd pay an extra $50 for the convenience, too. But my MIM Standard will do fine

They are breaking new ground here. That isn't Olympic White, black, or sunburst. That's something new right?

You won't see it in the specs. You have to play it but the maple boarded ones (red and black) are super fast for a p bass neck and very comfy.
Yeah, the specs just say "slim C", which doesn't really mean all that much... I'll have to search around and see if there's one anywhere that I can try, as the only fender dealer in my town has a shiite stock and makes me pay 20% just to have them bring something new in.
The neck's a little thicker front to back than the American Special, but not by a lot. And the width at the nut definitely doesn't feel like a jazz bass - more like a petite version of the standard modern P width.
First post here and just ordered the Mendel sig. Can't wait. I'm a guitarist, but play bass off and on. While looking at doing a custom build, the price was close if not the same to the Mendel P bass.

Sorry, just saw this. So far, I'm loving it. Good weight, great tone and very comfortable to play. Just need to figure out what strings to put in it. I do not like these fender strings at all. I'm thinking either DR flats or Chromes.

I got to play one Wednesday it's put together very well it sounds great!!to me the neck felt like a plumped up jazz bass is the best way I can describe it.it's got me itching to drop a set of quarter pounds into my American special. I'm not really into the foo fighters but but if Nate's bass was mixed to sound as good the one I played.I'd like them a bit more.
