This is very similar to what I heard in the Nordy that I had for a short time with the Big Singles... a J bass-looking instrument that sounded like a modern, soapbar loaded instrument.

Funny how opinions differ from one person to another. All the basses I've played with Big Singles in Standard J locations (most with Aguilar pres of some sort) sound like Killer J's.

Transoarent black over swamp ash but concord grape is pretty close too.

What's with the tape above the pickups? I don't get it. Unless you're using it as a thumbrest and the tape's there to protect the finish.

All Sadowsky basses come like that: it's to protect it while you try it out. The film is easily peeled off and leaves no mark or residue.

I never really viewed the Sadowsky models as 'J on steroids' really... more a unique take on a J sound... maybe a touch more modern with the humcancelling stock pickups.

I would think putting soapbars in place of J pickups would suck the J right out of the tone, but I guess that's not really such a bad thing if you are looking for a downsized J body with a more 'soapbar' type boutique tone. The steroid comment is from the fairly common description applied to Roger's instruments.

I think this bass gets that phat Marcus Miller tone as on Outro Duction from SILVER RAIN. Whether it's J or pseudo J...I don't know. I dig the tone and playability. It makes me happy, already inspired me to play riffs I had not thought of, and that's what counts.

Old thread, but I'd love to hear this bass! Thinking of putting some soap-bars in my RV5, I'm just not enjoying the Jazz pups as much as I hoped. (And I played an R5-24 and loved it!)
