Fender Pawn Shop Mustang

Nice thread revival. I'm still loving mine. That curtis novak pickup, he wound it to his "hot" spec's. Little more dynamic than normal, with more lows, and brighter highs. I actually sold that one i made with that pickup, but still rock my original pawnshop. I'm a huge fan of mudbuckers, prob more than most. I also have the fender starcaster that has 2 of those same pu's in it. I also have a gibson sg that i love the mudbucker in it, and also a gibson eb-11, dc les paul jr bass that also has mudbuckers.

thanks for entertaining my thread revival :)
I am interested in these pickups, mainly the 70s tele bass kind of configuration with the WRHB at the neck pocket. However, I've always wondered what it would sound like placing an additional WRHB further back, maybe an inch or so toward the bridge from where a standard P pup would sit. I'm kinda hoping it's a little P-meets-Stingray. I'm getting the ball rolling on a custom build with this configuration.
You don't happen to know the DCR on these do you?

How's the tone on one of these? Is the fender mudbucker as muddy as the gibson and how does it compare to a regular mustang pick up and how does that mustang pick up compare to a p-bass pickup (which at least looks kinda similar)? Sorry, a lot of questions, but been lookin for a nice short scale to try and a mustang might be the one.

I have three of it and i love, is possibile put a switch to split the humbucker in to a simil single coil. In the picture a JMJ and the electronics of a Pawn Shop Mustang with a switch between pots View attachment 4515092

Is that coil splitting a very complicated mod to install? Does that give the humbucker tone as well as regular mustang tone in one, or is the single coil tone it's own thing?

I've never had the opportunity to lay my hands on one but have mostly heard great things about them.

I always wonder "why" when folks say the Pawn Shop name invokes images of cheap and beat up instruments. That must be a bigger city thing. In my neck of the woods there are a few resale shops and a only a couple actual pawn shops and their inventory definitely meets the standard of beat up but never seen anything I'd consider cheap.

Love the Squier Mustang I have so this is very cool!

How are the mids on these things do they cut through the mix as easy as a p bass? I’ve had my eye on one of these since they came out in 2013 but never had the money back than I just sold a few things and finally purchased one of these. I’ve always loved the p bass but I really wanted a massive huge sound of wide range pickup and this bass has grunge style all over it. Also is it easy to mod this for spilting the coils?
