Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

Finally season change in the NW, and a nice day to be outside so snapped a pic: burst '64 & car '65.

Id like a number please. 1965 precision bass refin. I remember when I was in high school 3-4 years ago I built a 65 copy out of mjt parts because I thought I’d never ever be able to afford or justify a 65 precision… and now I own one! Last pic is the copy I made. Way happier with this bass than the copy I made haha.

That's a beauty! Congratulations!

Here are my two vintage P Basses. Olympic White from January 1965 and Sunburst from May 1966. Love these basses

Beautiful! Looks like Pino's bass! Regarding club numbers, CBS acquired Fender effective January 1965, so December 1964 is the cut-off. Your bass is most likely an L-series and made of pre-CBS parts, but May 1965 production would technically be CBS.

Hey, I'd be curious to know when the date got actually stamped onto a neck. Like, did it get stamped when the neck was getting attached to the body, or some time earlier like when the neck was made and then thrown into a crate of necks for later assembly? Or some other time?

I've heard about people checking numbers on the pots to determine what dates those were made. That date seems kinda obvious but the date on the neck, not so much.

Anybody actually know when in the assembly process the neck gets stamped?

Curious Chuckie

I was told by one of the Fender gurus here it’s when the neck is finished, I was curious because my neck date is May 65 but it has clay dots instead of pearl so I thought that maybe it was a 64 neck that was stamped 65 when it was attached to the body but apparently not the case.

Here is my 1963 P Bass.
