Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

It's a long rather convoluted story but the Short Stroke is it appears to me that the pictures that I was sent were lifted from another site leading me to wonder if the fellow even has what he is selling
The seller also insists on being paid through PayPal friends and family even when I had offered to pick up the PayPal fees which would be involved
I would of course be willing to pau anyone who cpuld help me for their time
Alternatively if some one hete is unable to help perhaps someone could recommend a known honrst dealer in Fresno who would do it for a fee

Don't do it. Unless, someone here goes and does the transaction for you in person (with you on the phone). Even then you probably shouldn't do it.

I am quite fond of 1954. I have one slab body and one contoured. The slab P is from early '54 (3-54) and has an absolute baseball bat of a neck (which I love), the blonde contoured bass (11-54) has slight V shaped neck. I gig with both basses regularly. I am not worthy:)
P.S. - I've posted these guys before, I just get excited seeing all the "new" pre-cbs basses on this thread.

No I'm going to have to give it a pass the only way I would even consider doing it is if I get somebody out there to look at it in person and verify that even exists in his possession or if he would sell it in such a way that I would have some buyers protection instead of this friends and family nonsense
This is actually the second person since the beginning of the year to try to get me to buy using something like friends and family zelle or cash app
The first person couldn't even offer pictures
And So It Goes

I like how clear coat darkened on the headstock of the late '54. That's something you just can't fake. Beautiful.

I bought it from the original owner’s family. I have the receipt from when it was purchased in 1955, $300 with an amp. It spent its life in a Polka band in Wisconsin. They did a few albums and were a big deal in the polka world. Many smoky clubs and bars. I have the original soft case it came with too.

Thought i saw the leather bag in the photo.
Question for you, as i seem to never find a happy spot.
How close is your pickup to the strings?

I try to take an exact measurement. But, about the same as my 1966 P-bass. The pickup on the ‘54 is pretty loud, as loud as my other basses. I did have a 1956 P that was pretty weak. On my 2 54’s , the slab body has a Fralin 10% overwound, and the contoured (11/54) is the untouched original pickup and it is as loud as the regular p-basses I have.

Well well the guy with the base body is actually willing to do a face-to-face Meetup is there anybody here from Fresno who would be willing to act as my agent in this matter
I would of course be willing to pay you for your time

I have a ‘61 as well, a refin but a nice one, 8 lbs. I also have a ‘63 Jazz with original burst and it’s aged a lot like yours. Pics are in this thread somewhere but maybe I should just repost ‘em.

What also interests me is your case - tan with black ends. My ‘63 came in one but I didn’t know they were using those as early as ‘61.

That’s a nice looking 1960 P, but the crack at the headstock even if it’s been fixed and is stable would give me pause at the current asking price.

in my 25 or more years looking at pictures of old fender basses I’ve never seen so many cracked headstock/tuner than in the last year. What’s up with that?
