Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

This bass has pots with serial number 304 6237, which puts it in the week of September 10, 1962, but it has a slab board. Anyone else have an early 60s neck with side dot markers on it like this? The side dot is in the fretboard rather than the neck and fingerboard seam.

It's a monster player with a classic j bass tone. It's a joy to play.

All the important parts are original. Tone is in the ground strip! Fantastic bass, enjoy!

Chiming in to share my late 1958 P Bass.

A 58/59 3-tone sunburst w/ maple neck has been my dream bass for many years. This one's mine since Christmas. To say that I'm really, really happy would be the mother of all understatements.

Yes. Seems like they used a different kind of clearcoat back then, which doesn't darken with age like most 60's necks do.

Not mine, but a customer’s (pics taken with explicit permission) one owner 64 j. Original vc squier strings too. Similar to my 65, which is great. Taking it apart, I could hear little paint crack noises, meaning I’m the first one inside in 61 years.

Btw, 61 year old flats sound great, totally John Paul Jones Joe Osborne sound.

Not pre cbs, but here’s my 65 Jazz to compare. Again, all original and with the screw sounds I was also the first guy inside.

Wish I could find some original 60’s Fender bass flats to go on it, if anyone has any please PM me.

Is there a penciled “ S” underneath the pickguard on either one, there is one on my May 65 L series, apparently it was to indicate a body that would be suitable for a lighter finish, no blemishes or anything.

Spectacular! That finish is incredible and no fading, what a time capsule. Doesn't look like the truss had ever been touched. This owner in like their 80's by now? What needed to be done?

My early 64 has a Jan stamp. My pots are also stamped Jan 64.
