If you look up some Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass videos: A Taste of Honey...one of the televised versions, the bassist is using a matching headstock Precision. It's the only other one I have seen.

Indeed you should hide. You can get a refinished pre-CBS Precision for the same price as some custom shop basses. These basses are not so expensive after all.
I play in a church band and the no matter how exotic the acoustic guitars and electric basses, the occasional cello or violin represent the most expensive instruments by a long way.

Idk, my kids eat just fine!
Paid $100 bucks for my 62! Definitely didn't break the bank.
Many others were given theirs by family, bought there's long before they were ever vintage, or traded up for them over time.
Those that pay the high prices are able to do so, & I doubt their family is starving or doing w/o to allow their bass collection to grow.
In fact I can't recall a single person who's posted anything along these lines.
Nobody has ever said "well there goes the kids future" but it sounds soooo good!
No starving children, no tattered clothing.
People shouldn't make assumptions of others, & they certainly shouldn't openly express their envy, it's really not a good look.
If you can't afford one w/o hurting yourself, or your family, you shouldn't get one.
But that doesn't mean everyone else was in that same position when they obtained their's.

Now you got me! That was in '78 or '79. I wish I still had the shirt and the bass. I sold it to a highschool kid who was three times as good as me in about '83. Now all I can justify or afford is an SX Jazz. The sad part is that I sold it for about $300.
