Refin pre-CBS are still pre-CBS … and great players too! Congrats!
I always felt intimidated visiting this thread, but I guess I'm part of the band now.
L-Serial# 1964 (neck and pots also '64) - body refinished, after-market pick-guard -and covers.
Not sure how to tell if the thumb-rest is vintage or not, I don't think it is.
No clue what the original color was, this is at least the 2nd refin.
The frets are very clean, but have been dressed at least once I think - still plenty of miles in them.

I think I'm gonna reread the whole thread all over again!
Primarily a lurker on this thread, even with '66J and '78P Fenders, when I see a notification from most of the other threads I'm like "yeah okay, that's nice I'm happy for you" or "wow, valuable info- learned something new". But opening a notification from this thread and I get the same feeling as when I was walking up to the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan. So much history, so much beauty, so many legends, if they could only talk, the stories.
Thumb rest. Take it off and if it’s flimsy thin hollow brown flexible plastic, ITS REAL!

I never got a number, posted a pic of my '61 Jazz back in late 2017 in this thread. Picking it up from the shop I had it refinished later this week, back to its original Olympic White finish:

I dreamed of the day when I would actually own a pre-CBS Fender Bass. Now I have 3 (‘52, ‘54, ‘63)! And a 1964 Fender Jazzmaster guitar that is in beautiful original condition. I am not worthy. But, I am a believer that these old beauties should be played. And I gig with them all the time. Dive bars to big shows... it’s vintage pre-cbs 100% of the time.

64 Jazz bass. The bass was purchased used in 1971 when I was a teenager. Recently replaced the pots but otherwise original. It is very special to me.
I paid $173.00 for it with a leather gig bag. It was virtually mint condition with one small ding in the neck long since worn smooth by my hand.
If you sell it to me I’ll double your money!
