Fender Prices

So, those in the know, why did the price of a Fender P Bass go up $50 today, and the AVRI's up $200? Worldwide shortage of maple or alder? Fender being held hostage by the decal division's strike for shorter hours (60 minutes is just too long!)? Or could it just be (gasp) greed? Help me out!

They charge it because they can get it. If you like it, you buy it. If you think they are overpriced and don't want to look at used, you move on. Why did gas go up the other day? Why did beef go up at the super market? Why did new car prices go up? It's capitalism and we are slaves to it. We may complain about it, but still we buy what we want or need.

fender is pricing their American standards out of the market. up here they are 1450 for a P and 1550 for a J.
in Canada it is hard to find a used AS fender bass because no one buys the new ones either.

$1399 for American Stnd. J on MF. Hmm. Too steep for such hit or miss build quality IMO. I love J and P basses. If they were killin' it QC-wise like Music Man, I would be happy to pay that but I haven't seen it in most of the recent MIAs I've played.

Glad you will ship to Canada A-Step

There's a price fixing policy some makers have with regards to Europe. Neither MF,GC or Sweetwater can sell direct to Europe.
I just checked these prices American Deluxe Presicion at GC costs $1699 or £1046.44 but GAK in the UK charges £1522 for the
same bass. Even allowing for the VAT at 20% it's a rip off.

£1522 is $2472.57 at current rates. Nearly 30 years back I refused to buy Fender due to this same thing, nearly $2 to the £1 yet a
$400 Fender was £400 in the UK then.

People still buy them though.
