Fender Quality Control???

This is a new one on me. My friend just received his new bass from a well-known online retailer. It's supposed to be a Fender American Special Jazz Bass, and about half of it is.

Notice anything wrong here? :roflmao:

I've never seen Fender's production facility, but I would imagine this thing passed through quite a few hands between getting the neck bolted on and going out the door. Stringing, setup, presumably a final QC check, packaging, and NOBODY NOTICED THIS? I'm almost impressed...

Another thought...

Maybe it didn't leave the factory that way. Maybe it was purchased, then returned to the online retailer with a different neck. Wouldn't surprise me if it was. Ever wonder what happens to all the stuff that gets returned to a joint like MF ? I know people who've bought gear from MF for a short term project, with every intention of returning it within the 30 day grace period.

Then again, not everyone working at Fender is a genius, either.

Wow... the biggest Fender-related goof I've seen was a Vintage Modified Squier Strat that had a Tele Deluxe neck on it. But this.... this is a whole new kind of stupid. Haha, let us know how your friend deals with it, if he tries to work it out with Fender.

I saw this on reddit this morning, in that thread the OP says he called Fender and the serial number matches a Jazz Bass, also going by the nut with I would say this is a factory error, it's a Jazz neck with a P-bass decal. I would keep it just for the one-off uniqueness of it all.

Yeah, he told me he had already put it on reddit. The label is not wrong though, it is a Precision neck for sure. This nut is .125" wider than a Jazz bass. He called me just before I posted the thread and said he had just gone to GC to compare, and it's definitely a P neck. I agree that it's a pretty cool mistake, but he would rather have the correct Jazz neck.
