FENDER raised their prices on Squiers

Here in Vancouver (Canada), sticker price is about $525 for a new CV. That's almost $600 after taxes! Glad to know I'll probably make a few bucks if I ever decide to sell the Fiesta red CV P I bought used a few years ago....

I just purchased a VM70s jazz for just under £300.. never been that impressed by a bass for that price before.. glad I bought it

This has little impact on me. Squiers were beyond my reach even before the price increase.

Been looking at the normal websites and seems like the Squiers prices went up 20.00, especially the Vintage modifieds and Classic Vibes...

I wish it was only $20! I wanted to get a Squier Bass VI when they were $349. They've gone up $100!

I would have bought a Bass VI on a whim when it was $349, but not anymore. It's too much of a 'niche' or 'novelty' instrument for me to justify spending much more than that.

Don't kid youself that the manufacturers don't follow our posts on TB and other forums. They no doubt do. Take the Squier Jaguar ss. There are multiple posts about what a bargaun it was at $179.00. We're lucky thay only upped it by $20.00.

Buy used, like with cars and houses. The value is much higher per dollar. Entropy means that from the moment when it is done being manufactured that it will continually decline in condition, visibly, chemically, etc. It will never be New again, and will only ever move away from "perfection". Whether that happens in your possession or in someone else's is not worth the 500$ upcharge in my mind. New isn't a guarantee of quality, but used is a guarantee of value.

I have basses. Two 6 strings, two 4's and a 5 string. A Bass VI would be a nice addition, plus I never learned to play guitar so I figure this as the perfect way to learn while still having a string feel I'm used to.

When I first tried the Bass VI, I found the experience rather awkward. I also play guitar (though I consider myself a bassist first) but the VI doesn't feel quite like a bass and it doesn't feel quite like a guitar. I suppose I could get used to it, but I don't really feel the urge to. Maybe if I found one used for cheap, I'd get one, but I can't justify paying $500 or more (after taxes, etc.) for an instrument that I may not use that much.
I think raising the price was a bad move. I can't imagine these things were flying out the doors as it was. I would think $100 increase in price would only stifle sales further.
