Saw on slickdeals.net that Adorama has the Fender Rascal on sale for $499 shipped. I have no interest in this particular bass but figured I would pass it on.

Fender Rascal on Adorama

Hi B - I just saw this and I quickly had to grab myself one. Have you found any problems with yours? I had been looking at it for a bit, and I did recently buy that Squier SS Jag to mod up for a whopping $127. - but one can't have too many bass guitars, can one?

I like it, pretty much as expected for a short scale. The lipsticks aren't hugely high output, so it's a bit on the quiet side, though raising the neck and middle a bit more would help. The E string needs a bit of an intonation adjustment, but nothing unusual. The only real gripe, if you can call it that, was the missing snap closure on one of the shoulder strap ends on the gig bag. May have even popped out around here somewhere, but haven't found it yet. Easy enough fix, and I doubt I'd ever wear it backpack style anyway, so a single shoulder strap should suffice.Hi B - I just saw this and I quickly had to grab myself one. I never even knew they sold bass guitars,lol. I live not too far from them and checked them out in person, really a very nice store. Thanks for the heads up, can never have too many choices
I'd never even heard of that outfit before yesterday and I'm usually skeptical on TGTBT deals (did I just coin a new "cybernym" - as if we need more?), but the fact that bholder ordered one was good enough for me. Plus, as the saying goes... "Always have total faith in the knowledge of he who shall quote Aristotle, Socrates or Stephen Wright in his Sig Line"
One more thing... I ordered it about 6:00 last evening and just saw a tracking email that it's on the truck for delivery today! I think I'm beginning to like this outfit.

I don't usually name my guitars (maybe sometimes) but since it kinda reminds me of a 50's car, I may dub this one Spanky or Alfalfa (a reference the old farts like me on here will get).

Adorama is one of the big Photo Equipment discounters in New York. They started as and continue to be a Pro-Shop, with great prices and service.
I've always been suspicious of Adorama's prices on electronics but never read anything bad about them either. The news that they carry instruments could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the cash flow situation.
Been buying photo equipment from Adorama and B&H for years [more than I care to admit]. Even when I lived in LA I would buy from them the prices were that good.
BTW, how do you find these types of deals? When I was on their regular pages the Rascal came up as $799.

I simply stepped in it with this deal by being in the right place (TB forum) at the right time. I did search Adorama last night to check guitars and equipment, to find most prices in line with most other drop-ship outfits... and yes, the Rascal was listed at the MSRP of $799.
I remember buying a $1400. video camera from B & H probably 10-12 years ago for about $900. after on online search, but if I recall correctly, their prices started creeping up a bit not long after. Haven't had the need for photo equipment lately, so I can't say what's up now.
If it's all leather like it looks, and well made, "you betcha". (For someone, I suppose, sounds nice, but....)This must be one heck of a bag!

i've gotten some good camera deals at adorama, but some of their insanely low camera prices are grey market, which usually means no manufacturer warranty. there are a couple grey market sellers on amazon whose grey market cameras don't have english menus, but that's not the case as far as i've heard at adorama. grey market is actually pretty common on camera sites, btw, although some are more obvious than others at labeling their grey market stuff.
Adorama has been around for long time but they were mostly a high end photography and optics shop.
A few years ago, J&R, a very big consumer electronics and music place (also instruments) that was a big tourist attraction and not too far from Adorama went out of business. I think Adorama is trying to pick up some of the slack from them so they've expanded into consumer electronics and music stuff.

I've checked mine out every which way possible and can't find a thing wrong or seeming refurbished (I can't testify to a claim of "hot goods"- but I have a valid Adorama purchase receipt
). The finish is flawless, neck and frets are fine and I find nothing amiss with the electronics. As bholder said, the lipsticks are kinda quiet, but a little bump on the amp fixes that and maintains clear tone at higher volume.My favorite feature of this bass is the 5-way selector switch and push/pull volume knob - which, in effect - gives you seven variable voices. My weekly jam mates (all better players than me) really dig the Rascal and chose to add a few more Cream cuts because of the "near" Jack Bruce sound I can dial in... now if I could just play and improvise anywhere close to him we'll be all set.
So would a lot of us "be all set" if we could play like Jack Bruce...
I have a Rascal on order from Sweetwater - it's out of stock, seems to be a popular item right now. I've got a guy over there who takes care of me (Ryan Schmidt) so I've decided I'm not going to cancel my order to get it from an electronics place. But thanks for the info. It could definitely be hot - we're talking about NYC, after all, or a refurb or repaired B stock or whatever - it is marked $300 off. I'd even suspect counterfeit. (Not saying, just sayin ) Or maybe it is just a great deal - maybe since they're not a music store they weren't able to move it so they're clearing it out - that's probably closest to the truth.
