Fender Rumble Club

My problem with the metal grilles is dust. I live in a dusty area and my previous cabs with metal grilles (GK and EAW) always had a horrible amount of dust visible. I'm sure the Rumble has just as much dust inside it, but due to the cloth I can't see it

(The Rumbles grille is easier to remove to clean also, not that I am in that habit of doing so).

Has anybody replaced their speaker cloth with a metal speaker grill?

Version 1 & 2 Rumbles all had the modern industrial look with metal grills.

I think I know the answers to these but I want to ask anyway. Avoid regrets etc.

I have the 500 head and a cab. Lately I have also been playing direct through my recording setup. If I had the 40 and played direct:
- is it exactly the same going direct as the 500?
- how do you defeat the speaker in the 40? (Put something in the headphone output?)
- is there anything missing from the 40 input, outout etc. Does it have the xlr out etc.
- should i just get a 2nd used 200/500 head to keep in my setup so I don't have to unplug the cab in my 1st everytime I want to run quiet / direct? I will probably never use the speaker in the combo for this application. I will always use my head/cab setup.

No. Rumble 200 & 500 have a cab sim in both the headphones and XLR outs.

Yes. Just get a 200 head. No speakers to mute.

Leave them on and shine them up! That's the easiest and best solution to a non-existent problem.

LOL! Low frequencies goes through brick walls! A bit of aluminum has no effect.

Just plug into the headphone output. It defeats the speaker. I would just put a lead goin nowhere into it

I took mine off too... Think think they look a lot better with them off. Also, it adds to the mystery of other musicians trying to figure it what the heck you're playing through

Another complement on Rumble. Saturday afternoon we had our first practice with a new keys guy. After a while he asked me what amp I was using. I told him it was a Rumble 100. He said he really liked the sound. I didn't even mention that the Rumbles sound best when fronted with a Fender Precision.
BTW, this was practice with a 5 piece group, 2 guitars, drums, keys, and me. Lead is playing through a souped up Fender Deluxe. I forgot what the BL was playing through. It was a clone of something, but I don't remember. But the 100 with gain at 9 and master as 12 had no problem sitting nicely in the mix.

I always felt that when the jealous boyfriend of the super- pretty gal that's checking me out (what, this doesn't happen to you?) throws his beer bottle at me, it will conveniently trampoline off the grill cloth rather than shatter against the speaker grill. Hey, you never know.
