Just got my Rumble 500 head today. First question. I'm using a passive jazz and P bass. For a good clean tone, what is the default for the gain knob?
I've found 9 o'clock to be best. Just point it right at the cable input plug. If you need volume just jack the master up.

Probably right. The manual says that as gain increases the Overdrive effect will be increased, so I would suppose that more gain might dirty up the signal a little even if Overdrive is disengaged, unlike some amps where you have to practically dime the gain in order to have any real effect on the signal grit.

The vintage setting alone in your bedroom might leave you wanting more, but in a band context it is king. I use it in my classic rock band and it is instant mix cut through magic. With my more modern band I don't because I want the grindy clang.
Bottom line, judge the vintage button in a live setting, you will see it's power.

To me, the vintage "fattens" up the sound(s). W/out it, it's sorta like someone's sitting on your face in a bad way.
Rumble 500 combo with 210 extension cab. Ampeg SCR-DI on top. Classic 50's Lacquer P with GHS Precision Flats. I just use the combo at home, use the stack when rehearsing.
I use the VINTAGE button mostly too. Gives an instantly useable classic tone.
I usually have EQ something like- bass 11 o'clock. Low mid- 1 o'clock, hi mid -1 o'clock & treble- 11 o'clock
But, of course they're variable depending on the room.

Yep. I played average size clubs with a 500 + 2x10 and it was usually gain 9, master 9-11 depending.
I use the vintage on all the time.

Look at Old School settings. That is a good place to start. It is what I start with then EQ for the room.
Welcome Rumbler #905! A proper looking rig for sure. What do you use the SCR_DI for? Seems a bit redundant to me. But, Rumble on!
