Fender Rumble Club

Alright, kids. I did it. I just placed my order for a Rumble 100!
I know it'll be the perfect size to transport via motorcycle, but wish me luck that it'll perform as I hope for my "rock'n'soul" band audition next week!
Don't worry. I'll post rig pics as soon as it arrives.

Congratulations.
You will be very impressed by that Rumble.

What motorcycle?

Any of y'all notice a difference using an active bass vs a passive bass with your Rumble V3s? There's no active input or selectable pad, though I don't suppose that's always needed.

I've demo'd a 500 and a 200 and both sounded fine with active and passive pickups, but I never thought about A/B-ing through the same amp until recently.

Nothing to concern myself with?

Just can't use the same amount of "gain" w/ an active since your basically double pre-amping-unless that's what you want.

Gain structure is critical.
Rumble Talk Gain Structure

I normally have my gain at 7 o'clock which is off. I don't own any active basses. I use the power amp for what it is designed for.
Even though I've had my R200C since Nov.,2015, I still experiment w/ different combinations of settings, lately finding I like gain between 9-10 and volume 9-12 (+/-); almost always use vintage, bright depends on the room, NO o/d and tone to fit the room acoustics-usually 1-2 on both mids.

I normally don't use any overdrive nor any of the voicing palettes. To top it off I am almost always in subtractive EQ or zero boost at most. I like the master at noon or higher.

And that's part of the beauty of these amps-being able to dial in the tone(s) you want and all the combinations available

If you do it [the OD] right you can sound like a 60's all tube Fender Bassman wide open. If you run the overdrive wide open you sound like Jimi Hendrix playing bass.

There are a few songs that call for a lowdown, dirty overdriven growl, maybe with the bright button, and I enjoy playing them that way very much. I also love the ballads with no OD, whatsoever, but perhaps with some Vintage and/or Contour button(s).

But, I usually use just a bit of overdrive on my Rumble 500c to give a slight tube-ish snarl. I do the same on my Bassman 500, too, except it uses actual preamp tubes, and sometimes the Deep switch to taste.

I used to do it all the time. And get paid for it.

I've found that my active Ibanez seems to cause the OD to sound like fuzz quite easily. So, I'm still learning how to adjust the settings for active vs. passive on my Rumble 200C.
