Fender Rumble Club

Played today for the first time my Rhodes Mark I 1975 through Rumble 500H and 115 cab. Sounds nice. It's perfect for softer Rhodes sounds with lots of bass and warmth. The tweeter helps the bell sound to come through and overdrive is just great. It barks! Nice to have an amp that works so well with different gear. Love it.

Hello all,

I picked up a Rumble 500 combo last month and have been thoroughly enjoying. However, when playing quietly at night, I've been noticing a quiet hiss coming through the the horn and two woofers. Upon further investigation, I noticed that this hiss is present even without any instrument or cable plugged into the input. Without any input to the amp, the hiss increases in volume with increased gain on either channel. It is generally quiet, but ever since having noticed it, I've found it hard to ignore and have been concerned that I may have gotten a dud.

Can any fellow owners of the 500 combo test their units with no input to the amp, gain 10, volume 10? At this setting (while extreme, yes) the static coming out of the speakers, especially the horn, is most apparent. Without any input to the combo, should I expect silence except for the fan noise? Thanks!

Almost all amps have some small amount of operational hiss and is normal. Your maximum amount of hiss is going to be with gain and master dimed with max treble boost and bright button engaged with tweeter on. Now do the opposite. Do you still hear any hiss at all? Also how about with headphones?

Every amp had that hum, special at that price range. If you turn off the treble knob the hum gone?
I find lately that the class D amps tend to catch some RF interference as well.

EDIT :Linnin catch me on that:laugh:

Hey Rumblers,

I picked up the V3 200 combo recently and I absolutely love it! Its light, loud, and has a wonderful tone. I picked it up because Im relatively new to bass and the only amp I had was a Fender Sidekick 30 combo amp from '82! However I have been playing a lot of bars and small festival shows and I am really pushing the amp to keep up with with the two guitarists and loud drummer in the band. I decided to upgrade to a V3 410 cab and the V3 500 head, and am currently GASing to buy it. I want to know if that 500/410 setup will be enough for the gigs that we play. I know the answer isnt that simple but I would think that a Passive Yamaha RBX with Quarter Pounders into the 500 head and the 410 would stay in the mix at ~100 person bars and small format outdoor stages right? We dont usually have PA support and once I have the money I will certainly add another cab to the rig, but you all are the best equipped to know how far that 410 can take me.

I read that as a rule of thumb, if you have to crank you amp past 65% to be heard, then its not powerful to give you good performance and headroom.

Cheers from MA, TerryHesticles

I have the v3 500 combo on top of a 1x15. It's Crazy loud and we play bars and outside festivals etc. with good pa support. Get the 4ohm fender 4x10 it's all you need.

Thanks, Linnin. With the treble cut and the horn turned off, the hiss is much less noticeable, essentially gone, even with the gain and master at ten. I'll try it with headphones when I get home tonight. While chasing down the cause of the hiss I put my guitar noise gate pedal in the effects loop and that cut the hiss out nicely, so I'm not worried about the speakers themselves.

I just ordered a V3 200 from Musicians Friend with the 17 per cent discount! I play here around Corsicana Texas in several bands ,Christian, country, blues, classic rock. Im 62 and have several basses and amps but all seem to be gettin heavier! Buying this sight unseen but from reviews here think that 15 and 140 watts with PA support will do me fine ! Been watchin this awhile but this my 1st ever post. Hello from Texas to all you fellow bassplayers!
