Fender Rumble Club

This really should be Bass Player Acoustics 101 along with the basics of cabinet coupling effect and Fletcher Munson Effect. People you need to know this stuff.

OK good question @Bizorballs. First lets look at decoupling. Yes, you loose bottom end, but not all of it and not all at once. Lets raise your combo or cabinet up on a milk crate or two. As long as you don't go much over two feet, you're not loosing much at all, and nothing EQ couldn't handle.

On a boomy hollow floor or stage, you most definitely want to decouple to get rid of the boom. You can't do it effectively with EQ, you must decouple. Not only that you should use an isolation pad/platform such as an Auralex GRAMMA. Another new product is the Mud Stand if you have a combo. For a belt & suspenders solution put your Mud Stand on top of an Auralex GRAMMA. The GRAMMA gives your amp a new acoustically neutral 'floor' on which to recouple without any bottom loss and no boom. To my ear it also helps to tighten up the bottom, so I use one all the time.

Try this -> Take your amp outside and set it on good old Mother Earth. Play. Now put it on a GRAMMA. Play. What difference if any do you hear? Now put your amp on a hollow stage in a large room with hard reflective walls; and floor. Play. Now use a GRAMMA. Play. Now fill hall with happy shiny people. You & band play. Write down all scientific acoustic observations and report back with substantial findings. Draft and post new 'Rumble Talk'.

Thx for the quick reply Linnin. I’ve always been technical-luster (used to build my own Theil tuned cabs from the good Doctor’s nomagrams). The dynamics of audio are always interesting SO the addition of uncoupling the cabinet raised a new flag for me. New technology and cab design obviously create new parameters that deserve attention and thinking revision. I’m in. Thx again.

You're welcome, but I'm no technician, and what little I think I know about acoustics would fill but a single page.

This is pretty much the kind of response I was looking for. Deep, punchy, and overdriven is pretty much the sound I'm looking for, so the choice seems pretty obvious. I love the analogy too, that's probably what sold it for me just now. No question I'd rather have wife material. I post pictures as soon as I get my rumble. (Also, good choice on the Stingray :). )

Happy to help! I'm looking forward to the pictures. And hey if you keep your old BA210 around you can still have the Ampeg sound every now and then. Best of both worlds.

Thanks about the StingRay. Due to life being y'know life I had to sell it. Though that wasn't really an issue. It was a nice 4H slo special black/black/maple but it just never wanted to work right with my amp.

I recently got a Vintage copy in natural/black/maple. It's so much like a P bass it blows my mind. Simillar feel and even sound (think thumpy P bass with a sprinkling of 'Ray clank on top) but it's still got the MM style finish on the neck so it's smooth as silk. Not as well build as the MM was but I like it more and it was a 10th the price. :)

Happy Fender Froiiidaaaaayyyyyy! Played a nice parks and rec gig Thursday night with nice results. I’ve decided I need to get a compressor back in the mix to level things out a bit. To the right is my new 70s FSR Precision and my USA Precision. The Rumble sounds so much better now that I’ve swapped out the tan knobs for black ones lol.

My Rumble 40 croaked last night while I was practicing. It suddenly went from normal to very low volume to speaker farting loud. It continued this cycle for a while. The cycle was very fast. At least it is under warranty. I got it when it was 5 years. All I need to do is find the receipt.
I just thought of something. I didn't try a different bass or chord. I'll do that tonight and report back.
I'm thinking we should have some sort of solemn ceremony when a Rumble dies.

Commiserations. Hopefully it’s not terminal.

Because I'm lefty it's Tidepool for me, but I already have two American Precisions. And I'm old. And poor. So what!? Right?

Exactly there's always room for a new bass!

I'm pretty sure that the next time I walk into a music store I'm coming out with a Players or Classic P bass. So I really gotta stay away from them till at least boxing day!

We recently received both the P and J versions of the Players Series in for review, and I am definitely digging them!
