Fender Rumble Club

I agree, not all of it is just his opinion or observations.
Maybe "most" wasn't the right word to use, but when he throws out ridiculous statements that Fender is NOT scooped & never was, or that the Studio & Stage have the best digital effects available on the market, how can you take him seriously?

Agreed.

The Rumble is the best option - for me. Lots of other great gear also out there.

I'm sure he means well, but his Ampeg bashing (or anything non-Fender) & the snarkiness are unbelievable sometimes.
Most of the stuff in those "Rumble Talks" is just his postulation w/o any evidence to back it up, but no one has ever bothered to dispute him.

He's physically the closest TB member I know, but I'm not Fender enough for him.
GO AMPEG!!!!
Man, I hope hes watching!

However, some of the stuff in those "Rumble Talks" are attributed to certain Fender personnel, some named and some not, and not just from published documentation, at least AFAICS. Plus, he seems to have a mysterious benefactor who bestowed a Rumble Studio 40 on him, or so it appeared to me! So, the mystique of "the insider" looms large in his legend. And I won't even go into his heart health issues or what side effects those meds may have. Suffice to say, I wish him good health. Not that he would want me defending him, I'm not, since he seems to have blocked me, too. But, . . . . it's complicated.

I agree, @G-Dog, it's complicated. I, for one, am not going to comment on this further, at this time.

I really like the vintage sounds I get from my Rumble 200c, but it doesn't come close to my 300 watt Ampeg SVT Classic tube amp. Very different. I'm sorry Linn, please don't be upset.

Having owned a 'blue line' SVT and 810 cab in the early 80s, I'll freely admit it sounded great. But I couldn't carry either part with one hand and the only place I coulda used it these days quit using live music.

It's not complicated for me, but I'm talking IRL, too.

Anyway, sorry for snubbing my nose at the great resource we have here & thanks to G-Dog for arranging it all.
If his personality issues can be attributed to health or medication then all I can say is that I feel bad for bickering with him and I wish him the best.

However, if he’s just a jerk, then I’m not going to kiss his @$$ because he knows a lot about one particular line of amps. I didn’t give The King of Pop a free pass for banging kids, but a lot of people did... sometimes I feel like that’s what’s going on here with The King Of Rumble Amps.

I’ll give him (and some of you) the benefit of the doubt though and assume it’s health related. Best wishes Linn

Go back and read some of his older posts...even in other threads and forums. He's actually nicer now since he was banned earlier.

I've never owned an SVT but I love how they sound. I'm never going to shlep one though. I've also heard great sounding amps from GK, Markbass, Yorkville, Peavey, Orange, and Ampeg.

I really do like the Rumbles though. The Eminence 10" drivers they use are one of my favorite speakers ever. The Studio 40 being a bit of a standout because holy crap that thing rattled the store at like 1/3 volume! Whether in the 40 or 500/210 those things sound great!

I also got to play a 200C today. It was much quieter and had a lot less character then I expected. Until I plugged in this beautiful Epi Thunderbird. I don't know how you play one (so much neck dive and right hand/arm discomfort) but I know why! Those two go together surprisingly well.

I think the 10" in the Studio 40 is the same that's in my Rumble 40, which is not Eminence:

no mention of Eminence on the 40, but they do on the Stage 800

Wow , what a jerk !
I would venture to say, that's not medical, its arrogance. I talk about my Ampeg to kid around. Get a rise outta a certain someone. I have no ill wishes for anyone and enjoy the wonderful conversations here! Killed by death, Jimmy, etc, have great insight and experience for which I'm so grateful for. I believe I will never get rid of my Rumble 200c or 115 cab. The sound will never be duplicated. Ever. My Ampeg will not be replaced either. Fender will not sound like Ampeg and vise versus. I just like kidding around and hope no one ever takes what I say as an insult. I hope for everyone to have a great weekend! God bless you all, even Linn!

I like the 10" in my Rumble 40 so much that I returned the Rumble 100 I had intended to replace it with.
The 10" gets more highs, but can still do the lows with a little EQ, while the 12" Eminence in the Rumble 100 couldn't get as high.

You're not the first person here to mention the 12" Eminence to be lacking. For some reason is just seems to be an unideal speaker size for bass.

I know speaker size doesn't really matter, but at the same time I often find 15s sound dry, 12s sound like a good compromise that almost always misses something, and 10s are more wet (sometimes translating to punchy goodness, sometimes to utter mud like my old Peavey 210). 15s and 12s I'll always like to some degree or at least feel indifferent about but 10s are love or hate for me with no in-between it seems, and apparently that's how I like it.:bassist:

So, @amoodymule, is the tube sound of the X2 head that noticeable compared to the Vintage button on the 200C? Or compared to the overdrive of the 200C?

From memory of jammin' though the R40 and splitting to the SCX2, I was able to match dirt sounds with a guitar, and with the vintage disengaged for guitar, way to boomy. I will try that with my bass tomorrow, the R200c is at rehearsal.

I DO get to play it on it Saturday, yay

...it's been a week and a half, ...withdrawls n' such :D

The thing is, you hear what you hear-or think you hear. I Loved the sound of 2x12s that were in my first real amp (one of these)1963-Fender-Bassman-004.jpg but I've not been able to duplicate the sound that I remember. SVT/8x10s-nope, R & P Kustom/1x15-nope, post-CBS top and 2x12 bottom-nope, 3 channel keys amp w/ 1x15/horn and amp sim-nope. R200c-really close and with the R112 even closer- I think. My hearing is worse and my hearing memory is worser(?). So, I'm doing the best I can with what I can carry-and afford.

;) No problem! My first reaction was the same as yours, until I recognized the author.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being a curmudgeon. They're welcomed here:
Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Well - I really have no wish to be one, and it was a prime example of breaking my own rule of never posting while annoyed or angry. Something else that upset me had just happened, and instead of waiting a few minutes like I should have, I made a response that went straight to my keyboard without checking in with my brain on the way. :banghead:

My apologies to @Yahboy and the rest of the club.

Just wondering how this would work with my 200 Combo and 1-15 Cab? Would the tube sound be that noticeable compared to the Vintage button on the 200C?
A 200c with a 1x15 extension is a popular rig around here. The sound is going to be the same, just more of it. There will be a small volume gain because you will be getting the full 200 watts. But you are moving more air and you get more physical reaction to the bass.

For speaker sizes, I started out thinking big 15"-18” speakers were only for low tones and small 10"s were only for high tones. 12"s kinda blended the two, but not as extreme as either. Simple as that. But, over the decades of playing and hearing different speaker sizes I've felt seismic waves from 10"s and splitting ice-pick highs from 15"s that have dispelled my size prejudices.

Now, I admit that switching between rhythm, lead and bass guitars maybe my ears are not as attuned to any particular part of the spectrum as some others'. But I see amps and speakers being a lot like people; it's the sum of many factors that determines what any can, or cannot, do well. I feel you gotta get to know them, and yourself with them, to bring out the best! Those that reach judgement after 15 minutes, an hour, or just one gig, are shortchanging themselves

Deep thoughts . . . .
