Fender Rumble Club

i was thinking of buying a mesa subway cab to use with my r500 head just for something different. The 1x12 cab is rated 400w at 8ohms will that work with the r500 head?

so for my amp to run 500@4ohms, i need cabs running @ 4 ohms. The subways are 8 ohms only! how can i get more power is there a way?

Hi, @RumbleMan3! So, you have a Rumble 500 head and are considering what cab, or cabs, to run with it? Great! You could use EITHER:
  1. a single 4-ohm cab rated at least 500 watts or more, OR
  2. a single 8-ohm cab rated at least 350 watts or more, OR
  3. two 8-ohm cabs together rated at least 250 watts or more, OR
  4. multiples of higher impedance cabs.
But, to keep things simple and be safe, if you're just starting out, I'd recommend you limit your search to:

A. a single 4-ohm cab rated at least 500 watts or more, AND/OR
B. two 8-ohm cabs rated at least 350 watts or more, each.

You can run two 8-ohm cabs at the same time, to give your head a total 4-ohm load, to get the full 500 watts from the head. That's right, 8-ohms + 8-ohms = 4-ohms! [But, be careful NOT to run a 4-ohm cab at the same time as a 8-ohm cab because that will give your amp a 2.67-ohm load, which could cause damage!! Yep, 4-ohms + 8-ohms = 2.67-ohms!! Crazy, I know, but that's electricity for you.]

As for speaker sizes, brands, and most other considerations, you may mix and match to suit your own tastes, which may seem like heresy to many others here. But, hey, that's life. For instance, I have, on occasion, run a Bassman 115 neo cab (8-ohm) as an extension to my Rumble 500 combo with two 10" ferrite speakers (totalling 8-ohms) and it sounded wonderful! I even once connected a Peavey 115 cab (8-ohm) to my R500c and it, too, sounded good!! Go figure.

Hmm. Kinda makes ya wonder if it's a pretty good head or something.:smug:

Ok I have another general Rumble question...

...how do the preamps/drivers/overall tone differ between the v2 and v3 models? I know the v3 is lighter and prettier, and the features are updated. But I’m talking about the differences you won’t see on a sales brochure.
Do a direct comparison between a V2 Rumble 150 head and a V3 Rumble 200 head. Download the owner's manuals from Fender.com and compare & contrast. Buy both heads and run them back-to-back through a pair of Rumble 115 cabinets. The similarities and differences will astound you. Enlightenment awaits.

Well since I can’t do most of that, can you elaborate on those differences? I’ve searched the forums, but my efforts have been less than fruitful.

Edit to add: I live in a small city that has a state university AND a decent sized military base... and yet we don’t have a single Fender dealer within a 4 hour drive round trip... Sadly, trying gear in person is not an option.

But you can download the owner's manuals and write a comprehensive compare & contrast piece on the technical differences. Once you've done that I'll be more than happy to elaborate on the real life sonic differences of which there are many.

If you go back and read my question, I specifically asked for the info not found on paper. Why did you take so much time and effort to not be helpful? You also suggested I buy specific models that are irrelevant to me... I already own a rumble 150 combo and don’t care how a v2 and v3 head sound through a matching set of v3 cabs.

I grow weary of supplying brilliant insight free of charge to the intellectually lazy. Rumble On!

Thinking on that, I drove over to our local music store today & just up the road from them was a frat party rager in broad daylight, about 16:00.

There was a concourse of revellers on the front lawn & a band was playing, keg quite clearly visible.

The skimpy outfits would make you think it was 90F out there, but it was only 75F.

Well you certainly supplied some unintended amusement free of charge. I think it’s funny that people that know you in real life are messaging me apologizing for you

Congrats on being the coolest kid on the Internet!

Perhaps their cockles (whatever those are) of their hearts were being warmed.

I'm getting my 200c tonight! Can't wait to try it out. I'm new to bass, and kind of splurged and skipped the $100 practice amp thing :bassist:

Can't wait to see what kind of sounds I can make with it. I also think my Green Rhino is begging to be plugged into it.

Btw, anyone ever try any keys/synth with one of these amps?
I plugged my electric piano into it(killed the volume first). It sounded very good. Had to roll off bass a lot,but it definitely can be used as a keys amp. I sometimes play out with a big band and use my Rumble 40 as a slave amp for the piano man. He's way off to the right side in the set-up so the 40 is back between the bass and drums.

I didn't think Linnin gigged anymore :headphone::whistle:.
