Fender Rumble Club

Kinda started with this...
COD8FSA.jpg

I got the BXR from my ex bassist in a trade, good solid cab, ugly, but, it rocks.
The I got a R40, and dug it a bunch, so... found the Rv2 112 cab and had a idea, chop the empty space out of the BXR cab, and put a matching grill on it, yeah that's it!

Sold the GK cabs, they were so heavy, got the R200c --- happy "Rumbler" here :bassist:

I was gonna get a R500h, but I still dig the BX500, it's been a great amp for 5+ years and still kickin'

...any ole how, some steps to makin the BXR into a modified wannabe RUMBLE, then when the funds and time happens, I'll do the same treatment to the R200c, ...indeed :speechless:

When I get the grill on the R200, ...combination possibility pics, the R200 has more than handled the last 2 gigs.
I may never have to take any of this out in the wild :wacky:

So, @amoodymule, is the tube sound of the X2 head that noticeable compared to the Vintage button on the 200C? Or compared to the overdrive of the 200C?"

I did a side by side today with the X2 into the Rv2 112 cab vs the R40.

The X2 on the clean ch sounded nice, plain ole Fender clean warm, Motown - ish.
The amp is only 15w, so at half way it was good in a almost rumblin' stuff off the shelves and walls type of volume. The way I understand this amp, the dirt or modeling side is digital, and no real tube sound.

I only found 2 settings that had a decent sound, #6, a 65' Princeton Clean, add dirt, almost close to the R40. #16, Jazzmaster, had a bit more omph, I'd still say the vintage button is my favorite.

The Rumbles are killin' amps for the coin for me, it is fun to mess with other options as well, the X2 would work in a pinch if I had to :D

My previous post wasn't entirely correct, because I forgot about what O/D does to the frequency response.
Here is a graph of what happens when you press Drive:

Note, the blue line is w/o Drive on & red is with Drive on, but the knobs are set like this to make the freq. response flat:

I'd forgotten about this until I kicked on Drive on my mine just a bit ago & was a little surprised at the change in timbre between Gain dimed & Gain & Drive at noon.
So, you can expect a bump in the low mids & the high & low end to get tapered off.

That's with the Drive at only 8 o'clock, as per the original poster of the graph:

Appreciate all the info! Thanks again.

Ok, rehearsal update:

Took the Rumble 500 Head and 2 x 210v3 cabs for their first outing together at rehearsal last Thursday night. The rig preformed well. The band absolutely loved the sound of the stack and have asked I use this set up for now on.The drummer fell in love with the OD side of the amp and requested I try it with one of our songs. They loved that too. In the end though, I'm using a MXR Bass OD instead of teh Fender OD channel. I'd have to change the EQ too much between songs to make it worth the effort to use heavy OD via the amp.

Now they are not saying they didn't like the GK amp, just that old school vibe of the Fender fits the bands sound better. And I will still be using the GK for certain gigs for the 1 piece setup vs. 3 piece and ease/speed of set up and tear down.

Kinda excited about this going forward. It was nice to have the speaker closer to my ear instead of the back of my knees. Plus at rehearsal volume, I didn't even get the master past 9 o'clock on the dial. The Rumble worked fine for the 3 hours we worked on songs and never broke a sweat. Plus this new band is open and even demands, I use my effects! Rumble handles those well too!

Thanks, muley! Hmm, I guess I can understand the digital modeling bypassing the pre-amp tube, but surely the power amp tubes would still give their natural breakup to the digital tones when cranked, wouldn't they? Or didn't you get that far, for fear of demolishing the house?

It was a nice warm (tube) sound, it didn't get as loud as I thought it would. I need to hook it up to the 115 cab in the band room and see/hear if it hangs. Recording wise, it should prove to be a good tool, many flavors of OD to be had.

I like the 10" in my Rumble 40 so much that I returned the Rumble 100 I had intended to replace it with.
The 10" gets more highs, but can still do the lows with a little EQ, while the 12" Eminence in the Rumble 100 couldn't get as high.
Do you suppose it's the size of the speaker rather than the brand that leads your ears to that conclusion? Example, would a GK 212 or 412 have the same sound as Emminence? Wondering because I haven't yet heard 12's in a bass cab but have always been curious.
Cheers my friend.

Do these have a handle on top instead of the sides like the newer rumbles ? id like that better , any sound difference in these and the new ones ?? thanks , :)
IIRC, they're made to stack horizontally-like the pic, or vertically(notice the 'extra' feet). I think the handle's on the side(?)
