Fender Rumble Club

So here's the dilemma. Its a bit confusing for a newcomer/low tech person. Running a MM Ray35 into a Rumble 200. The 200 sounds great most of the time, but sometimes at rehearsal it seems to lose the mid range battle and low frq definition. I'm battling to get this to sound right. Added a Boss Chorus and it is not good (maybe I am not using it right but it clips the sustain and adds to the lack of definition. Cables seem to make a huge difference. I just bought a coiled EB and it was not so good. When the Rumble is on song, it is very good. Now I'm not sure what to do. 1. Get good cables. Mogami Gold was the plan. 2(a). Add a 210 ext cab. 2(b) sell the 200 and get a 500. I know theres a lot here but any advice appreciated.
Get a Mogami cable keep the 200 and buy a good P bass

I hear ya, we played a 100' barge on Eel Pie Island on the Thames over Christmas and it was a tight fit. I actually bought a Hofner Club bass (and a Rumble 40) specifically for the gig. Smart move.

Nice sound. I shoulda taken the R40 last night-the 200c was more than enough. Plus, they had a sound company putting us FOH. I should always take both if I don't know the room.

Your bass, amp and cable are all fine. The problem is probably not with your volume, the 200 should be able to handle most rehearsal situations, and I've encountered similar problems with far louder and more powerful rigs. Therefore, an extension cab will probably not be of much help to you, neither will a 500, although both are great, and will serve you well if and when you decide to get them. But you can probably save yourself a lot of money by taking some simple steps.

What you do need to do is to sort out your settings. First remove the chorus pedal from the signal chain. You can add it back in when you've sorted your basic tone. Then ensure you have proper gain structure, more on that here:

Fender Rumble Talks - gain structure

If you're still not cutting through when rehearsing, boost the mids, lower mids particularily. Although it sounds counterintuitive, don't be afraid of cutting the bass a little as well. Since your bass is an active, three-band type, ensure that the controls on the preamp on your bass are set correctly also. Here, too, the mids are important. Experiment until you're happy with the result, it can take a little while to find something that works in your particular band setting.

HOLD UP! LOL....to WHOM are you referring? Because I am a member of this club, Dav...but since when does anyone HAVE to be a member of this club to participate in this thread? Really? Is there some password and secret handshake? If you feel THAT I WAS the one being snarky, so be it Buddy. I have called Linnin out several times when he is rude and patronizing to others in this thread and in others. Usually I just sit by and watch him throw dung at everyone but there are times when I can't stand it anymore...and I am certainly not the only member who grows tired of it and has complained about it :roflmao:

Oh, did I hurt your feelings by standing up for gear that's NOT Fender? Last I checked, we are allowed to discuss other gear in this thread, are we not? Yes, we are. I will put praise where praise is due, and furthermore I would not have been discussing other gear if Linnin had not made a point to run-down the other brands, as he always does.
Also, where was I "knocking Rumbles"? I have never ran-down any Rumbles or Fender gear, Sir. In fact, I am always full of praise for Fender amps.
Lastly, I was in no way being condescending to him or anyone else, unlike Linnin who takes great pride in running others down...be clear on that. I do think it's hilarious that you think I was projecting...you are free to kiss his feet if you want. I appreciate his Fender knowledge and enjoy his stories, but I do not suffer bullies and braggarts!
And one last thing, this is not YOUR playground, Dav
I don't see you in the member list. The attachment you referenced can't be found. Do you know your number? If so, I'll add your name to the list.
And you continue to be annoying and confrontive. It is my playground as well is it is yours. Just lighten up and be nice.

So a compressor pedal is NOT necessary at all ?!! I read it was probably the most 'crucial pedal' and am looking out for a MXR M87.....
Some might say a compression is crucial. I'm not one of them. I played for over 40 years before I knew there was a need for compression. If you want to use a compression pedal, fine, but it really isn't necessary. Do a little research on the built in compression in the Wiki pages and experiment with what you have. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Gentlemen, please.

Linnin issued Thundar's number here.

Let us please focus on our shared affinity for the Rumbles and leave personal disparity out it. We don't want to attract the moderators to settle things in a way that nobody wants, please.

Let's all Rumble On!

This got me to thinkin'... Through a mutual friend, they recently took on a new (as in brand new) bass player. (just bought his first amp & bass). Anyway, apparently he got some TC amp with modelling etc, I gather similar to the newer Rumbles and can adjust the amp via his smartphone. I really don't have much need for this as my multieffects pedal does similar should I need it. But it did make me wonder how much adjusting you-all tend to do when playing a gig of your Rumble. I really rarely touch the thing once I have it dialed in, and if a song calls for it I'll just have a preset on my multi do any serious adjustments (so I tend to run the amp flat). Still, I guess if you are changing settings on your amp often, having it be accessible via smartphone might be handy I guess. You guys mess with your amp much when playing between songs?

Once I set my amp for the room, I seldom will touch it after that. I don't use any pedals. All my tonal changes are with my hands and the controls on my bass. YMMV

I stand corrected. I see your name in the list now. I missed it.
No problem...my number was in my signature as well, and has always been there....and I will be happy to lighten up and be nice as long as you and Linnin do too, as you both continue to be annoying and confrontational as well. Accusing me of bashing Rumbles and stating that you would prefer that I go somewhere else if I am gonna praise other gear was ridiculous.
By the way, Thanks G-Dog for looking that number up!

Thank you, gentlemen. I greatly appreciate your understanding and willingness to continue in a civil manner.

This club means a lot to me, and probably many others, and I hate to see misunderstanding among it's members.

Thank you, again. :)
