Here is my Rumble 500 combo. How do I get a Fender Rumble Club member number? Then, once I get one what shall I do with it? Newb questions obviously. Not new to bass or this site, just new to logging in and posting etc. Peace.

Anyone use a pre-amp with a fender rumble 500?
I love the tone of the combo. I hate the pre-installed overdrive and inability to dial it in. I just want to keep my tone clean and gain a little grit when I drive into my bass...not heavy distortion or tons of overdrive, but a little tube flair. I know it's a solid state amp which won't produce tube tones...I just want to see if anyone has some suggestions on how I can get closer to that sound.
Thanks,
Keep Thump'n

Welcome Rumble #1044! Unpack that bass and Rumble on!

Welcome, Rizillin, Rumble brother #1044! That number and a few bucks should get you a cup of coffee almost anywhere. As a member in good standing you get to ask all kinds of questions, newb or otherwise. And, you now have full access to the Rumble Wiki Page linked in my signature! Check it out, and post your favorite settings in the RUMBLE TONE POOL spreadsheet linked on the wiki page, too.

I was intrigued by the few posts a couple pages back about using an HP filter. Could someone school me up on what, why, how?

Yes. Me too. Where to buy one?

See the High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread for all kinds of info.

You might try a Fulltone bass overdrive, I don't have one for bass, but have the Fulltone OCD for guitar, goes from clean boost to a lot of overdrive and anything in-between. Very tube like, quality pedal!

Hmmm, you should be able to dial in just the right amount of "warmth".

On the aforementioned Rumble Wiki page there are links to a series of Fender Rumble Talks that explain a lot about these new V3 Rumbles. There's one on Gain Structure that's very helpful, and sounds like you need the one on Rumble Overdrive, Adjust Gain, Drive and Level to Taste!

Hope this helps.

I have a Pigtronix Bass Fat Drive that I really like and that I think fits your requirements very well. It's out of production, but many used/open box units are available on the web. Just be aware that it's an 18 VDC pedal with its own little wall wart PS.

Here are a couple of comments from the first page of this thread:

Pigtronix Bass Fat Drive - what's the verdict?

I just finished up editing two demos of the BFD for Pigtronix. Will put them up here once they're live and on YouTube. All in all, it's pretty good. It has a good character to it, and you can get some great sounds out of it. It gives me some nice dirt and grit without being too muddy, and you can dial in more distortion with the flip of a switch.

Thanks for sharing! I just bought it myself. My initial impression is that I like it for the very light OD I'm looking for, it adds growl but not in the high mid fizzy way like some other pedals I've tried.

And a little Rudy Sarzo to spice things up!

Inexpensive option would be to grab an Electro-Harmonix Bass Soul Preacher....great light overdrive with a clean blend so you can find a level of drive you like then only add in what you want to your clean tone.
