Welcome Rumbler #1048! What took you so long to join? Glad you're here. Rumble on!Oh..oh...oh! Can I join too? My first setup was a Rumble 25 back in December. It has been fantastic to learn on! Here's a snapshot of the current hardware. I got the TC gear last week.
Thanks. It really is a shockingly good amp and yes, the Jazz bass sounds incredible through it. I had all knobs at noon with the exception of the two drive controls, which were about 10-11:00 and the tone was spot on (with the Vintage button in). A few early observations:Welcome Rumbler #1046! The 100 is a lot of amp for a practice amp. You'll find it will do well for small venue gigs as well. And it compliments a J really well. Rumble on!

1. I always hear on TB that folks like their amps to sound perfect with "all knobs at noon" - this is the first amp that I've actually been able to do that with. I almost always boost the low end of the amps I use, but found here I didn't need to do that - in fact, I might cut the low end a little. I can see how things could get muddy fast with this amp if you're not careful with the EQ.
2. This is the only amp that I've ever tried where I actually like the drive on. It doesn't sound like grind or distortion, but it brings out the natural growl of a Jazz bass with rounds. Much more open and alive sounding (to me anyway!)
3. It is more than loud enough for a practice amp - with the gain and volume at noon, it was almost uncomfortably loud. It wouldn't be enough though for any of the gigs I do (again I'm using an SVT/810). I used to use a studio's 100W/115 Fender combo and it was just barely enough for the rehearsal. I went back and forth about whether or not I should get the Rumble 200 or 100, because I do think the 200W would likely be good for rehearsals and maybe small jams. Ironically (for a guy that drags 200 lbs+ of amp to every gig), I decided on the 100W due to the lower weight. I have a very small house and store the amp in the garage, only bringing it in to practice and taking it back out again when I'm done. I may swap it out for the 200W at some point - I probably should have gone that route.
Again, very impressive amp, especially for the money - best $299 I've ever spent! The headphone jack/speaker mute and the AUX input were must haves for me to practice and I felt this amp sounded better than any of the small combos I tried alongside it. I have a GB Streamliner head that I use as a backup amp to my SVT and thought about maybe just buying a small, lightweight 112 to go with that for practice, but ended up going with the simplicity of a combo. Glad I did!
I wish I could walk into a room with my SVT over my shoulder.Something kind of funny hit me this morning. I’ve had me Rumble for just a couple months now. I have an assortment of amps and cabs that Ive used over the years on different kinds of gigs . My main rigs have been an Ashdown ABM 600 and an Ampeg SVT 7 pro, into various Ampeg and Genz Benz Uber cabs. I’m totally happy with my amps and cabs and they aren’t going anywhere.
But.....I play roughly 2-4 times a week in a variety of gigs. I realized today that in the couple months since I got the Rumble 500, it’s the only amp I’ve used. The ease of loading it in my car and lugging it around plus the amount of sound I can get out of it, has made for the perfect portable gigging rig for me. I’ve taken a chance a few times using it- thinking it wasn’t enough amp to cut the gig I was doing. But it’s pulled through and preformed just great. My back has thanked me many times, and it’s nice to walk in with a gig bag over my shoulder and the Rumble in one hand! I’ve actually had guys chuckle when I walk in with this rig, and have walked over later wondering what amp I’m using!
That sounds painful.I wish I could walk into a room with my SVT over my shoulder.

When I owned an SVT/810, it was used on a steady-6 night/week-gig. It went on to a 4' high stage. 50 weeks later it came down for 2 weeks(vacation), then went back up for another 50 weeks[total of 3 Miami Beach seasons]. When that gig ended so did my ownership of that beast.I wish I had someone loading and setting up my gear! I’d use an SVT all the time!

Thank you! I was lurking for months. Actually I'm just a beginner and was apprehensive about chiming in. I've learned the TalkBass community could not be more supportive. It's awesome to see so many people that have been on here for 5, 10, or even 15 years.Welcome Rumbler #1048! What took you so long to join? Glad you're here. Rumble on!
And remember: the "search" function is for people too lazy to ask.We have all skill levels on TB. Do not be intimidated. We actually love to see beginners here because they are adding to the collective of bass players.
Ask any question that comes to you. That is how we all learn. The answer to your question may help another.

Very early in my bass playing days, I was at a club with a guitar player friend. I said I wanted to leave because the bass player wasn't all that good. He refused to leave. He said, "Pay attention. He may be the worst bass player ever, but he may know one trick you don't know yet." I've followed that advice ever since.
My first amp was one (actually 2, eventually)of these:Things have come a long way in the bass amp world. But I still have a love for an SVT/810. But I’m with you- not enough to carry it around. I’ve actually had great luck with the Ashdown ABM’s. Really love that amp.
I never really thought I’d like a combo enough to gig one. And I’m not saying the Rumble sounds like my old all tube rig. But all things considered- Tone, portability, size.... the Rumble is a winner for me.
Been trying to duplicate that sound ever since. My Rumble 200c comes real close and gets moved in one trip.[I use a cart that holds the amp, duffel, amp stand, and mic stand, the bass is in the other hand]My first amp was one (actually 2, eventually)of these:View attachment 3354541 Been trying to duplicate that sound ever since.
