Fender Rumble Club

So I tried a 40w out in my local shop to test run my bass after a set up.

It sounded a little boomy and...lacking in clarity with a flat E.Q. I have a shortscale PJ Mustang Bass and the P bass pickups especially were just really boomy (I can't think of another word, sorry). Have people experienced this before, and it's just something like "Oh yeah, roll back on the bass knob champ, they all do that" or a doomed relationship between my bass and the Rumble?

I love short scale basses and used to play them exclusively up until about a year ago. The fact is, they are boomy no matter which amp you use, that’s just their sound due to the scale length. This is made even worse with an amp like the Rumble which is on the warmer, more round sounding side. I had a Rumble with a Mustang and you really do need to back off the bass, use the bright switch and bump up the mids and high a bit. The other thing that will help are strings. Something brighter sounding like EB Cobalts will really cut down on that boomy sound too. Not sure what kind of music you play though.

Do these older Rumble cabs have the same speakers as the current generation or different? If they are different, better or worse?

That looks like the Rumble V2 2x8" NEO cab, rated at 250 watts continuous, 500 watts program, you have pictured, so that's different from the current generation of ferrite magnet speakers where 10" is the smallest. They also had a Rumble V2 1x12" NEO cab, also rated at 250 watts continuous, 500 watts program, like the discontinued Rumble V3 112 cab with ferrite magnet speakers. Better or worse would be in the opinion of someone familiar with having played through both.

And the Rumble V2 4x10" cab seems to have Fender Special Design speakers with ferrite magnets. But their rating of 500 watts continuous, 1,000 watts program, may be the only thing they have in common with the current Rumble V3 410 cab with Eminence speakers with ferrite magnets. So, they may be somewhat similar but, still not quite the same.

Hey guys. I am new here. I have been sniffing around for a few months. I have only been playing bass for a year. I lucked out and bought a fender rumble 200 combo for my first amp. I liked it enough while playing it at home. It wasn't cutting it in a loud rock band. I was at about 3 o clock on the master volume and the tone I liked would sort of disappear. I fixed that by adding a peavey headliner 210 to it.(waiting to find a rumble210 cab locally)

Now I'm at 12 o clock on the master volume at practice and it sounds great. Now I have to unplug the cabinet at home to get the tone I like. I love how portable this thing is! Thanks for everyone's input on this page.

Right on. Thanks for the info. If this doesn’t pan out I’ll call and see if they still have it. I jumped on the guitar center listing because I haven’t seen one since I’ve been looking.

Gonna be pretty frustrated if I need to return it and am out the shipping cost though.

If it doesn’t work when you get it GC will refund shipping. If it's just that you don’t want it then shipping is on you.

I'm unfortunately stuck with shortscale because I've got a buggered up wrist

I expect it's mostly just going to be a case of compensating

An adjustable HPF will take care of the boomy.

And will help compensate for any instrument boom better than adjusting the on-board eq.

My Reverend Wattplower with LaBella Deep Talkin Flats is not boomy through my Rumble 500C

Hi ya mbell75
My little Fender V2 Rumble 75 with it's great tiltback feature design, has what is called a 12" Fender Special Design driver in it and sounds good and punchy. Nice little practise Rumble amp and ive also used it for small gigs, adult birthday party events, small open air gigs over the years too.

Played a used 1x15 cab today with a 500 head at Guitar Center and with the master and gain halfway up and all EQ at noon, there was a noticeable crackle sound every time I hit the E string, almost like a blown speaker. I had thought about getting the 1x15 to go with my Rumble 500 combo but this is a bit worrisome. How easy is it to ruin these speakers?

mbell75,

There is a lot of good help here from the Rumble People.

This is my 2 cents, Back in 70 I had a peavey 2x15 with the peavey Bass head. It was about the only amps you could get at my home town then. I am old fashion and love the looks of the old peavey stuff, so I pickup them up once in awhile when I find some in good shape.

A few weeks ago my church band played at another church ( I use a Trance ELF system with my Rob Allen Bass). But anyway they had this old peavey 1x15 with a blown speaker - and they let me have it for a donation in the plate - so I got it.

I happen to have an eminence 3015 - so I put it in the cabinet, with some batting and based on the computer a 6" shelf added to the port. I do have a Rumble 500 head - but just picked up a 150 head and they work great with the peavey (but both do) with no issues at all.

If you get the peavey and a little money can go a long way.

Here are some pics.

Let's get ready to RUMBLE!

Fun review! That 75 has aged like fine wine!

Just ordered a new Rumble Studio 40 so I can see what all the excitement is about! $283.00 with discount and Backstage pass points from MF. Now I have to find a new home for the Rumble 25;).

Congratulations, Soully! You can use the 25 as sound reinforcement for the Studio. Instrument cable from the Studio's left channel (mono) FX Send to the input of the 25! Wish you could stack the Studio of top of the 25, but it's too big that way. Perhaps with the help of the Tone App on your phone you won't have to get to the knobs on the Studio too much if the 25 is stacked on top of it?

Thanks @G-Dog! If I need sound reinforcement, I thought of connecting the Studio to the Combo 200...do you think that would be enough reinforcement or should I connect the Combo 200 and the 15" Cab? ;).
