I wonder if Fender is using an alternative Mexican port? It's around 3 weeks from Indonesia to Long Beach/L.A., not including the time it takes at port to unload, clear customs, and drayage to their warehouse. Like I said earlier, the west coast ports are a disaster right now. There are signs that the main issues will be resolved soon, but it will still be some time before the congestion is relieved. The fact that Fender has product available is a really good sign, however.

Trucks run from Fender's Ensenada, Mexico plant to Fender's Ontario, California Distribution Center everyday. I just checked the map, and guess what? Ensenada is a Pacific port city!Very likely. I hear there are some importers doing just that, and some are even using Canadian ports.

The political/labor problems with the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach (effectively one large port) has global repercussions.
I think it is an issue to change ports.
I am not a shipping professional, though I do know a few people who work at Port of LA/LB. They are not optimistic about this dispute getting settled soon, though it could be.
- The port of Ensenada has a tiny fraction of the capacity of the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach and it looks like little to none of that capacity is being used to ameliorate the LA/LB problem. A quick glance at Invalid Link Removed shows 287 ships currently in or off of LA/LB and 5 ships off Ensenada, most of which are Mexican registry. More telling is the number of ships anchored outside LA/LB in an orderly pattern.
- The shipping manifest has the port of entry listed. This is not easy to change once the ship has been loaded.
- Fender does not take up an entire container ship. They share that ship with containers from many different companies, going to many different companies. I would think there would need to be a consensus to change port-of-entry.
- The road from Ensenada to San Diego isn't all that great of a road. Never more than 2 lanes in each direction. There is a twisty mountain pass section.
- Getting trucks across the border is most definitely an issue.
Port Hueneme, a little less than 100 miles north of LA/LB has better logistics and is already set up to off-load cars headed from Asia to USA, but they may share the same labor issues as their brothers to the southeast.

What about the Port of Portland? Portland Or isn't too far as the crow flies from LA if you need to get your material on shore and moving...

This is correct. The Pacific Maritime Association manages (or mismanages) all U.S. west coast ports, and the Longshoreman's Union lack of a contract has led to labor slowdowns. PMA has eliminated the sorely needed night shift, and there are other allegations of mismanagement. Sweetwater puts it this way, "Fender has informed us that this item has an unusually long shipping delay." It's really an unloading delay as containers full of much wanted product sit on anchored ships waiting their turn to be unloaded. I put in a call to Fender for an official response, but I don't actually expect one.All west coast U.S. ports are affected, everything from the typical container terminals to oil & grain terminals. Also, container vessels usually stop at LA/LB first, then head north to Oakland and on up, depending on the vessel and it's sailing schedule. Some go the other way, but the congestion issues have delayed things across the board. Shipping into another west coast port isn't going to help much, sadly.
