Fender Rumble Club

That has to be one awesome sounding rig.
Thanks Gravedigger Dav! You know, I have never used both cabs together with a band. The guys I am rehearsing with on Sunday are LOUD! Drummer is good, but he really pounds the skins/cymbals! Oh yeah... and the guitar player uses a 100 watt Marshall head through a 4x12 cab.

I used my 410 cab only last week at the audition and it sounded awesome. However, I’m a little nervous about “pushing” the 410 too far and possibly damaging the drivers. So this week, I have decided to bring my arsenal! I will be using the full 500 watts instead of 350. Can’t wait to plug it in and see the looks on their faces when we start our first song! Should be a good time! I’ll return to TB with a brief report on how many items were knocked off shelves. Lol. Thanks again for the compliment. Oh, BTW, I’m not going to be using the J that’s pictured with the rig... I’m bringing my Squier Affinity PJ with SD Quarter Pounds and my Squier FSR CV P.

played a gig at a local campground/ resort tonight. We played in the bar/lounge tent, 3 hr set.

Experimented playing 1st half with vintage off. I found it to sound clear and a little gritty; 2nd half with vintage on sounded a little warmer and smoother. I like them both, but slightly preferred it on.

Rumble on!
I have tried playing without the 'vintage' on. 1 or 2 tunes and I reach back and push the button. It comes closest to giving me that 'sound in my head' I strive for in all situations. I often add the 'bright' depending on the room acoustics.

Hmmm, ... well, since I recommended an Authorized Fender Repair Center for the assumed speaker replacement, one could only imagine what I might recommend for amp head repair. ;) And still wishing you all the best.

So, what replacement speakers did you go with? And are you willing to sell the, assumedly fine, stock speakers? Or, are you considering building a cab for the stock speakers? Or going back to the stock speakers and returning the new speakers? Or, ... or, ... . . . Enquiring Rumblers want to know.
.

Hahahaha , well I think I’m going to take the head to a local amp guy I use and see what he says.. I ended up with 2 eminence Delta 10-B 350w replacement speakers, which I am sending back and keeping the stock speakers. Then depending on what the amp guy says, I may go with a Ampeg portaflex 800 , a 210 cab and a 115 cab. Or if it’s an easy fix, I’ll add a rumble 115 and run with it

Good(least expensive)luck.

Or You can still make a passive cab from the combo, and get a head to drive it. There are examples in the wiki AFAIK.

That speaker model looks like a good one to me, from what little I know. Mind if I ask how you came to that choice? I'm interested in learning a bit. Shame you couldn't tell us how they sounded. Or, maybe you can, if your amp guy can fix the head before you send 'em back! [hint, hint]

Sure, after researching for hours I had come to the conclusion this one made sense to me, then I emailed a company called Avatar Speakers what the closest replacement speaker would be. That is what they suggested as well. Yes it sucks, I couldn’t give them a listen. I am sending them back tomorrow so I have the money, since I may have to be replacing my whole rig. I really am having a hard time figuring out what to get. From reading through here, it seems Rumble 500’s don’t love an active bass and now researching the Ampeg portaflex, they seem to have the same problem. I need lightweight due to back problems.. I am not sure which way to go that won’t break the bank. It really sucks because I love my rumble. I hope he can fix it.

That does suck Jen. I can tell you the Stage 800 does great with active basses. Many of my favorite presets are built around the Rumble V3 amp which I'm assuming is the 500c.
I play an '89 Power Jazz Special, an '07 EBMM Sterling HS, a Fender Deluxe American 5 and they all sound great. I have a home built bass with an active "Tone Monster" pre that also sounds great. I have played all of those through a Rumble 500 head and they sound great, not sure why they wouldn't be killer through the 500 combo.
Can you get to a retailer and play through a 500c with your bass?

I have visited my local places in search of amps, heads and cabs, and they don’t seem to have much in stock most of the time.. guess I need to just keep on it. It’s a bit of a trek for me but I’ll just keep trying. I have definitely decided that any amp head I buy will not be used lol need that warranty for problems such as this.

Maybe you could order from a retailer that accepts returns if you don't like it. Then its just a matter of trying one and deciding if it's got what you want.
I've played lots of amps through a bunch of cabs and I can't beat the Rumbles for tone, volume, portability. I bought the 100 for my son to use in his apartment and it sounds great as well.
I hope you get it sorted out, I've been where you are, amp trouble sucks.

Thanks, I got my fingers crossed. I considered Mesa and Ampeg but the Rumble sounded pretty good to me and I'm a noob know nothing bass player. I figure I can't get hurt too much at $499 if I want to upgrade later.
I’ve always chosen Ampeg, up until a few years ago when I got a Rumble. The more I get to know the Rumble, the more I think they have a similar sound to Ampeg. Mesa is great, but a little too rich for my blood, lol

you’ll find a lot of Rumblers use the 200c for gigs, it’s a beast. Heck, I’m using a 100c for rehearsals and most gigs. You can always add an extension cab down the road.

what kind of music are you playing? What kind of musical situations do you see yourself getting into?

PS, welcome to TB & the Rumble club!
