Fender Rumble Club

Lotsa "mixed signals" in that thread.

However, AstroSonic gives a very straightforward R500c speakers upgrade recommendation at the end of this thread. Fender Rumble 100 vs Gallien Kruger MB112, which is linked in the Speaker Replacement section of the Rumble Wiki.

Rumble On!

I went back through a years worth of emails and can not find the one that addressed the 10" Rumble speakers. Dang. I do recall the Magnet was very light, maybe 10-12 ounces.

I have not seen this model 10" previously discussed in the replacement speaker threads. 16ohm Basslite. Actually, I've never before seen this model.

It can be a very confusing topic. Like that link you posted says it's a 300 watt speaker, which seems like an upgrade to the stock speaker. But, if you read the spec.s, it's just 150 watts nominal, which is actually a downgrade. And it's optimized for sealed cabs, which Rumbles aren't. It's always something!

What I'm hearing so far are warmer, punchier mids with brighter, clearer highs. My expectation is that it'll cut the stage mix even better than it did before.

Hello Ryeguy63.....SO glad you found my post helpful. I hope you saw my followup where I decided to REMOVE almost all of the 1/2" Sonic Barrier foam. My sound is now MUCH more open with a more interesting character. Note, I play relatively soft with a 16 piece Senior Big Band....so I can only speak from that experience. I've used it with them with my G&L L2000 with LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass flatwounds and gotten rave reviews from the guys. It now weighs 20.6 lbs....like nothing. My 67 year old back appreciates it. I set gain at 1:00, engage contour only, no bright or vintage, bass at 3:00, everything else flat. Occasionally, I need a louder, fuller sound and I take my Rumble 200 which has a QUALITY stock 15" Eminence Speaker....I understand the same one they put in their 300 watt 1 15 cabinet, because it sounds SO good. The 200 sounds FABULOUS, but lifting the 35 lbs is a bit of a chore lately. Life's a choice........

SO glad you found the speaker replacement post helpful. I still highly recommend it to anyone seeking a higher quality sound and an even lighter cab.

my way of lining the r100c

What is that, dORSY? It looks like the top and just the top half of the back and sides. So, is the bottom and bottom half of the back and sides unlined?
.
Exactly.
As it's shape is "spikey" and the material is a thicker foam construction, it prevents standing waves to build up quite well. Most of the mids/highs come from the seaker's face anyway, so loosing some highs inside the cab is perfectly fine.
Putting more would take up too much of the cab's volume. I guess.

I did see your follow up post about removing the foam and went back and forth on whether or not to add it. I ended up using about a half a sheet lining the back and the sides. I don't know if it's enough to make a huge difference but I do know my G&L JB-2 sounded fantastic through it when when I used it on a couple of small venue gigs a few weeks ago. Louder with warmer mids, just what I expected. Thanks for all your insight and as always, RUMBLE ON!

Well after replacing both speakers and still having the horrible speaker sound, I decided to disconnect them and direct line through my PA and it still making the sound so… Not a speaker problem, any ideas guys? The sound produces particularly on lower notes, Switched all cords out.. Tried a different amp entirely so it’s not my bass it’s not the cords it’s not the speakers. I am super happy about this because I bought the Amp secondhand so I have no warranty.. yay!!

I wish I had an idea. So sorry about this crappie situation.

Sooooo it wasn’t the speakers.. it’s somewhere in the amp head. I unplugged the speakers after replacing them .. direct lined the amp to my PA and it’s still doing it. This sucks. Any recommendations guys?

Hmmm, ... well, since I recommended an Authorized Fender Repair Center for the assumed speaker replacement, one could only imagine what I might recommend for amp head repair. ;) And still wishing you all the best.

So, what replacement speakers did you go with? And are you willing to sell the, assumedly fine, stock speakers? Or, are you considering building a cab for the stock speakers? Or going back to the stock speakers and returning the new speakers? Or, ... or, ... . . . Enquiring Rumblers want to know.
