Fender Rumble Club

My Rumbles are rocking with a new bass I picked up. 1999 G&L SB-2. Been looking for one of these for a while!

Thanks, that's what I'm doing. I just don't hear the volume output capabilty of the R100 this way.

Note: I have never before used an Effects Loop. So I'm a 67 year old virgin..

Lovey, be sure you are connecting these two jacks.

If you're not getting any sound out of the 100, then there may be a problem with the 100.

Hmmm, I was playing with my amps just to see whether I could.... R200cV3 8 ohm and Peavy ecoustic 112 4ohm. I could get sound going from R effects Send to P Return, controlled volume from R, but the P112 was much louder than the R. BUT plugging into the Peavy and going from it’s Send to Rumble Return, Nada.......

Hmmm, a quick glance at the Ecoustic 112 manual shows it has three loops to choose from, including Mic Effects & Instrument Effects loops, compared to the Rumble's single loop. Did you try all three, JPD?

I would speculate that the Preamp Out & Power Amp In would be most analogous to the Rumble's loop. And, from the manual, the Footswitch Jack can mute the Preamp Out!?! Even without a plug in the Footswitch Jack, depending on age and use, it may have corrosion muting the Preamp Out. Perhaps running a plug in and out several times could loosen said corrosion and unmute the Preamp Out? I dunno, just troubleshooting.

Well, I finally went for it and decided to do the @KenPompanoBeach mod to my 100c. I swapped out the OEM speaker for an Eminence Basslites2012 and lined the cabinet with a little Sonic Barrier 1/2 inch acoustic foam. Early impressions are it definitely worth the time and extra $$$.Won't know for sure just how good it sounds until I use it on a couple of gigs this weekend. But from what I've heard so far, this Rumble's gonna really rock!:bassist::hyper:

I’ve been seriously considering doing this. Would love to hear the report after it’s battle tested! How would you describe the change?

What I'm hearing so far are warmer, punchier mids with brighter, clearer highs. My expectation is that it'll cut the stage mix even better than it did before.
That sounds perfect. I have 2 x 100 combos which is plenty loud, but find myself wanting a little more clarity in some situations. I’ve even been considering getting a GK!
But the speaker mod would be a much cheaper alternative, if it works out

One important thing to keep in mind when doing this mod is that the new speaker does not line up with the existing holes in the cabinet. Apparently the OEM speaker is slghtly larger. After a frustrating half hour of trying to make it work, I gave in and used Ken's idea of rotating the speaker and adding new holes with some wood screws. Turned out to be a pretty easy fix.

In my very humble opinion, if I were you I think I'd rather sell my 2 R100s and buy 1 R500. A super light and powerful combo that covers all my needs! ;)

The only thing stopping me doing this is that in here an s2012 costs half as much as the r100c -.-'

Ah, thanks. Just came across the manual hiding after our move down to here. And before that, the Peavy Combo was in storage on the Mendocino coast for 11years. Time to read and for sure de-corrode. The reverb springs are suspected of corrosion as well, as I had to shake them vigorously to break them loose. Really need to open up that cover to inspect and then clean all the pots as well. Time for a Fender footswitch to use on both. Interested to see if I can get the reverb effects coming out of the Rumble....
The difference in impedance means they are not a match to use either as a head and the other as an extension cabinet, though.
