Fender Rumble Club

... ... From reading through here, it seems Rumble 500’s don’t love an active bass ... ...

Now, that's just a gross generalization, much like saying that all bassists love active basses! :woot: I don't believe that has been established to be factual for Rumbles in particular, nor any amps I'm familiar with. Please don't let that prejudice you.

Yes, I've read of some active basses that can cause clipping in various amps, especially some 18volt. But, not all active basses are the same, in that respect. I believe it's mainly a matter of getting to know your instrument and your amp and how they interact. You know the old Spider-Man adage of what comes with great power. ;)

My R500c seems to absolutely love my active basses! But, I never dime my bass's bass boost nor volume. I always want to have some reserve (headroom?) available at my fingertips, just in case. And mine are just 9volt. Never had a problem, even when my country cover band slipped into a couple volume wars, in which I participated purely in self defense! :smug:

I’ve always chosen Ampeg, up until a few years ago when I got a Rumble. The more I get to know the Rumble, the more I think they have a similar sound to Ampeg. Mesa is great, but a little too rich for my blood, lol

you’ll find a lot of Rumblers use the 200c for gigs, it’s a beast. Heck, I’m using a 100c for rehearsals and most gigs. You can always add an extension cab down the road.

what kind of music are you playing? What kind of musical situations do you see yourself getting into?

PS, welcome to TB & the Rumble club!

Thanks. Musically Classic Rock, Blues, and Bluegrass. Not sure the Rumble 200 can hang with my fire breathing 100 watt Plexi but it should be a good fit for the rest of my amps and gear. I picked a Fender Elite PJ for my first bass.

Yeah, you’ll never really know til you get it in battle conditions- but my 100c hangs tough with my guitarist’s 50w Marshall tube combo. Looking forward to hearing your reports when you get to use it a little more!

Maybe you could order from a retailer that accepts returns if you don't like it. Then its just a matter of trying one and deciding if it's got what you want.
I've played lots of amps through a bunch of cabs and I can't beat the Rumbles for tone, volume, portability. I bought the 100 for my son to use in his apartment and it spunds great as well.
I hope you get it sorted out, I've been where you are, amp trouble sucks.
Thanks I just sent back a Bugera Veyron Tube head.. I didn’t love it. I think that’s a good idea, I’m going to keep doing that lol

Thanks for that, I would like to keep using my Rumble… Hopefully I can get it fixed!

More than that - it simply isn’t the case. Rumbles don’t mind active basses at all, and even if you have one with a very hot preamp (my old SBMM SUB springs to mind) a slight tweak of the gain knob will take care of any problems. Besides, as has been stated many times previously, the Delta-Comp limiter prevents any clipping. I have yet to see an active bass that Rumbles can’t handle. :)

I have to agree....I don't have any issues with my active basses, mostly Spectors but I have a few others...just gotta know how to use the gain setting.

Thanks for the backup, Jake & Juniar! Uh, ... I mean, Thundar, yeah, that's it, Thundar. (Goes well with Rumble! Hey, I been callin' you at BR549, but yer never home in Hootersville.)

Yeah, the Delta-Comp is what I was trying to remember. But there's also a clip detection circuit and a built-in high pass filter that makes some people say the Rumbles are "teenager proof"! :roflmao: Guess I shoulda done my research before spoutin' off! Good to know y'all got my back. Now . . .

Rumble On!

This is extremely tough for me but I am going to have to give up my number as I sold my Rumble 40 v3. It went to a gentleman who has Polio and he is able to move it around due to it being so light.
Thank you all for everything.
Bob
I think I can speak for most everyone here in saying that....Once a member, always a member.
You're a rumbler at heart. We'll save your spot. You'll be rumbling again soon.

Thank you very much for your kind words. It means a lot. It was a hard decision to make but I feel it was the right one.
Than you again.

Yeah!

After over a year of LOOKING for an excuse to use two 115s, I finally decided one 115 cab and my 350 head is all I'll need. I'm downsizing to just those two pieces. That gives me 220 watts through a 115.

I sold my other 115 and my Rumble 30 combo is currently for sale.

I'm going to get a keyboard and amp and learn to play keys. That's another instrument and another amp to store in the house and haul to practice and gigs so I have to slim down the gear collection and be efficient. My Rumble 115 cab and head will be all I'll need in the bass amp department.

Sorry, Bob, but your name remains on The Club roll as member #982, with honors.

Your helpfulness, respect and consideration are a shining example of humble Rumbleness, with, or without, the amp. And Mr. Voodoo is right, you may get another Rumble some day, and you'll be back in the saddle again. Meanwhile, please continue your participation here, with full privileges.

Happy trails, ... uh, that is . . .

Thanks Gravedigger Dav! You know, I have never used both cabs together with a band. The guys I am rehearsing with on Sunday are LOUD! Drummer is good, but he really pounds the skins/cymbals! Oh yeah... and the guitar player uses a 100 watt Marshall head through a 4x12 cab.

I used my 410 cab only last week at the audition and it sounded awesome. However, I’m a little nervous about “pushing” the 410 too far and possibly damaging the drivers. So this week, I have decided to bring my arsenal! I will be using the full 500 watts instead of 350. Can’t wait to plug it in and see the looks on their faces when we start our first song! Should be a good time! I’ll return to TB with a brief report on how many items were knocked off shelves. Lol. Thanks again for the compliment. Oh, BTW, I’m not going to be using the J that’s pictured with the rig... I’m bringing my Squier Affinity PJ with SD Quarter Pounds and my Squier FSR CV P.
Looking forward to your report.
