Fender Rumble Club

Working with my lovely bride on this one.... I have an overly large collection of camping gear. (What do I need 10 tents for?!) so we are going to sort it all out, and put a bunch of excess on Ebay to fund this...

I literally haven't used Ebay since I guess 2008, I am not sure I even know how to log in any more... Ugh.

FWIW, this isn't pressure from her, it's me digging my heels in against myself. I am sick and tired of debt, and want everything paid off. I went from 6 credit cards, 2 revolving accounts a car payment, and a mortgage 6 months ago. As of an hour ago, I have 2 credit card payments and a mortgage left... One of those credit cards is Musiciansfriend, and will be paid off in 2 weeks...

So in an effort to keep my sanity, I will hold off on the 210 cab until I generate cash on hand. I will likely pay the extra to support my local shops (They sell for the same price, but have to charge sales tax, which is kind of high here at 8.25%)

Not saying that it's not going to happen, just saying it's going to take a couple of months to get cash on hand, get it picked up, or most likely which is why I said months, ordered to be picked up locally...

I could buy it on MF on credit and be done with it. But again, I want to support my local shops. Especially Danny D's (They have always done my family right, I have no business interest in them, just very happy with them is all...). And I don't want to hammer on another credit account... Yuck.

Life is long, and it's way more enjoyable without certain debts hanging over you. Time is on your side, the 210 will come. I went against my usual rule of waiting til I get a deal, which along with a one-in-one-out rule keeps my GAS in check, and I ended up missing a big savings by just two days.

However, because of my impatience, I will have a chance to gig a full Rumble head/cab rig tonight. It's a private party in a banquet venue not designed with live bands acoustics in mind. We've played there before, and it's always been a challenge. I'm leery of just the 210, mainly from a height/dispersion perspective, but it will be a good test.

Dave: I think you're right to do it this way. And I keep reminding myself: no one has actually even heard these cabs. they may not be the panacea we were hoping for. Putting $350 down on a wish is a fool's errand.

Other thoughts: deals are always there. The 2 ways I get them are to 1, become friendly with the manager of the store. They always have room to move, sometimes as much as 15%. 2, The online places will also negotiate, you will have to make a phone call, and they will definitely price match. If you can get any store to give you a lower price, you can use that to negotiate an even lower price elsewhere. It's normal in getting the best deal, and is called seeking bids. This includes MF, Sam Ash and GC. I always use my local Sam Ash, though. They're been very good to me, and I want to make sure they are there when I really need them. And paying tax isn't that bad a thing, after all, it's local tax, not going into the black hole of federal spending.
I admire your sense of responsibility. And there's always the notion of "saving up for it" as opposed to using a credit card. What a novel idea!

LOL...

I get what you are saying, and yeah, well somebody has heard it paired with a 500 combo. We have folks here with that rig... It is FAR beyond what I need at this point, and that is the key. I don't NEED it, I WANT it... The 500 combo is obnoxious loud and clear enough for anything I am likely to be doing over the next few years... I'm not in a stoner metal band, nor will I be... I will say the 500 combo could probably keep up with that though... Even at low volumes, I have to be careful what is sitting on a shelf in the practice room when I hit an F. I can literally watch the window flexing...

I was fully expecting to do some negotiating where I can, but yes, I want to support my local community and the small business owner. I like Sam Ash better than GC for sure, but by the same token, my local one off store guy has given me, and my family knock out service for a LONG time, several of my in laws, neices and nephews have had accoustics, and one nephew has a strat that he managed to actually break the tremolo on... And the service has always been spot on. Not the absolute best prices all the time, but factor the service with the cost and he's been a real bargain...

Dave: somebody heard it, but that somebody wasn't ME, the guy writing the check! :-)
I have high expectations for the 210, and have confidence it will be awesome. Still, coming from not just a different factory, but almost a different continent..!
My 500 combo also cuts every job I put it to, and these are pretty loud jobs as well. The master has never been over 12 o'clock. The thing about it, and all combos, is that they are so low to the ground, I can't hear them properly. If I raise it to the level I like - about chest high, then they lose coupling with the floor and the bass drops off precipitously. My experience is that a line-array affair is the best - it gets the speaker where I can hear them while keeping the floor coupling. Best of all worlds. That's why I'm looking at the 210.

I agree with the height to head / height from floor problem, which is why I am interested in the 210. HOWEVER, Even with the combo on the floor, I can hear it pretty well at just about every volume I am willing to play it... Yes, it gets LOUD, without getting, well, farty or muddy...

Linin, don't worry. Mother Abigail was 106 years old and still played her guitar in the corn fields... :)

I've heard it said that if you can remember the 1960s, you weren't there... As the baby boomers age, I fear the reasons for that lack of memory may shift...

Hi Folks,

I am thinking about a Rumble 200 or 500, among a few other amp options. I got to play a 200 in the store and liked both the sound and the power. The bottom of my pants were flapping a little bit- always a good sign. :) I definitely liked the sound of the 200 more than the Ampeg equivalent 1x15 which, to my ears, seemed much more colored. Some people do love that but it wasn’t my thing.

I have not been able to play a 500 yet. (They are in short supply, I know.) Reading here, whenever anyone asks about a 200 versus a 500, everyone says to get the 500. More output for not much more cash. OK by me if the tone does not change too much. (By the way and FYI, it seems as though all the big online retailers have bumped up the 500 price from $500 to $550.) Some quick questions...

-Are there any major tone differences between the 1x15” 200 and the 2x10” 500, other than the 500 being louder?

-How does the 500 (or the 200, for that matter) do with the low B of a 5 string bass?

-How do you get the grill cover off? To tighten down all the screws, which I have read here may need some attention upon receipt. In the photos I am not seeing any grill screws. Does it just pop off if you wedge in a screw driver or something?

Thanks!

The 500 is LOUD, more speaker area, and even at lowish volumes, I can "feel" my bass way more than I could with the single 15... Overall tone with my SR480 playing A/B between the 200 and 500, the tone seemed almost identical, some slight variation but then again, the 500 is a 210 rig where the 200 is a 115. There is bound to be a difference.

I can't address the 5 string question as I don't play a 5er... Hopefully someone else can help you...

On the bottom right hand corner of the cover, there is a fabric tab that you just tug on and the cover pops off. No screw problem with mine...
