Fender Rumble Club

Might be illuminating to share useful info on how we structure rehearsals, prepare song charts and set lists, balance instrument and vocal levels internally, and establish sound pressure levels for public performance. I realize this isn't a subject for the Rumble Club. Is anyone familiar with a forum dealing with such subjects?
Sounds like a good idea for a new thread? I'd be very interested in hearing everyone's methods.

Does anyone use a compressor with their Rumble 200? My old Carvin amp had a built in compressor. From what I read, the Rumbles have a built in Limiter/Compressor as well. If you do use one, any recommendations? I don’t play slap style, just straight rock/blues but I have noticed some notes are boomier than others. I thought maybe some compression would help that out. Thanks!

It might, but technique can help with that as well. You do have to know your instrument well. I have one AEB that must hate A notes. It wan'ts to sceam A and go into feedback. I have to touch it lightly and damp almost immediately.

Pretty Mustang. I've been holding out for the Vintera but haven't seen any in the wild. I've played a couple JMJ's that sound beautiful and look great with the period correct pick-ups. The newer mustangs also feel and sound great but they loose something aesthetically with the big modern p/j's.

Congrats on the ext cab. How noticeable of a difference has it made? I can't fully bring myself to pull the trigger on on one yet since I mostly play through headphones and thankfully none of my shops have had any in stock.

It's a lot louder with the extension. It was loud enough before, but it's slightly middier and more aggressive now, which will help with punk rock shows, and it gained a lot of headroom. At lower volumes the combo sounds better on its own.

I try to get the instrument playing as balanced as possible, and use the compressor for typical compression. The Rumble doesn't care, it just amplifies whatever bass you give it.

Well, that escalated fast since my inquiry post yesterday. :D This Rumble 100 has some really great sounds in it and the little sucker does get loud in my home office but, lets see if she can keep up with a band audition/practice settling a little later this week. I feel like it needs just a little more, like 20 more watts (in come the “goes up to 11” jokes) but let’s see what happens. I plan to keep it tilted with my amp wedge as seen in the pick for maximum efficiency and I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised after a full band jam.

I love how I can carry this amp with my pinky finger!

As much as I love my 100, I couldn't hear it over my drummer without cranking it to distortion. I'm sure the 100 is fine for quieter jams but for loud playing in small rooms not so much.

I would love to hear what you think of it in a band setting. I just exchanged my 100 for a Rumble 200 to just get a bit more power. I don’t play with a band yet, just practice at home, but if I do, I was thinking the bit more power the 200 has would be enough. I loved the 100. Great little amp, I was just unsure how it would perform if I jammed with others.

Just joined the rumble club! Long overdue.... came to check on the hissing tweeter sitch, but it seems by responses on this thread to be normal. Dang! This amp packs a punch. Got the 500 210 combo and the 115 extension arrives in two days... will I even need that thing now or will it just be a glorified stool for the 210? Only time can tell. If anyone is wondering, yes you can dance on it and it won’t break... Sorry I’m in a punk band so that’s a thing.
I’ll let you know how well it takes abuse. ;)

I've had my 200c since 11/2015, got my 100 in Dec 2019. I can do almost all our gigs w/ the 100 so the weight savings is worth it to me. The 200c now only goes to outdoor gigs. Remember too that the 200 is 140W by itself, 200W with extension cab.

Just purchased a Rumble 410 cabinet, and it arrived yesterday. Picked it up as another option against my pair of Rumble 115s that I use with a Bassman 500 head. Very interested to compare the 10s to the 15s over the coming days. Only spent a few minutes with it last night. First impressions were that it was quite different and I’ll probably need to tweak my EQ a little bit, but it sounded good!

Ugh, now I am rethinking my Rumble 200 purchase. Maybe I should have just kept the Rumble 100 and saved $200. The size and weight difference is more significant than I realized. And the 100 sounds so good. Hmmm. I might have to just get a 100 again and compare them side by side at home.

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thanks, @G-Dog. Your compilation of A History of Fender Bass Modeling Amps has been linked on the Rumble Club Wiki page in the Rumble Talks section. That's some very interesting information for Stage & Studio owners.

Thank you, G-Dog , for your valuable contribution.

The 410 is definitely more punchy. But it also can handle the lows really well. Don't be bashful about bumping up the low mids some. It will produce a powerful, warm and round sound. If you like a bit more articulation, adjust the tweeter accordingly. Enjoy and let us know how it is working for you.

You will be amazed at what an extension cab for the 500c will do. It won't be a whole lot louder, but the sound will be a lot fuller.

I play pretty loud gigs at small clubs with a Rumble 40, and have no problem being heard. That's with keys, a reasonably volume'd drummer, and sometimes a guitar, sometimes not. The R40 does just fine.

For larger venues, probably not (the larger venues usually have a PA or we bring our own PA).
This is good to hear. I have been afraid to push my R40 too much since if I remember right the stock speaker is not the most robust as far as power handling. Do you feel confident the built-in compressor/limiter provide reasonable protection?

I know I can always take the line out to the PA but the one situation I am in I got blamed for causing a Bose LM2 (I think that is the model) to fail because I had a Peavey tube pre-amp plugged into the PA for a very small show. This system later failed with none of my stuff (except mic) plugged in. I just don't want to go through that again.

Yes, dealy, I feel confident that the built-in protection is sufficient for a reasonable bit of pushing with a volume controlled group. I've done it with my Rumble Studio 40 with the same speaker.

bassy, were you the one making the connections and adjusting the settings on the Bose? If not, then the only way to avoid being scapegoated again is to totally avoid whatever moron blamed you! They obviously don't take any responsibility for the use of the equipment and were just looking to absolve themselves. Don't worry about it.
