Well, now I am frustrated.... My cab is here, and it's beautiful to look at... But alas, no cable yet...

That's a pretty expensive amp stand you got there!![]()
Right-great description...it was not truly "farting"...just a growl that was not deep and clean like the higher strings.
seriously, I'd have been on my way to GC to get a cable - any cable - just to hear it.
I'd be having lunch at home tomorrow. ;-)I was going to grab a cable during lunch tomorrow...
Hiya,I'm having a difficult time trying to dial in the tone on the 500, and maybe that's were research will come into play as well as trial and error. With the 200, it was just small adjustments and away I went. Yes, I got very spoiled by the 200.... But I'm not going to rule out adding a 15 extension cab to help fill in that low end I'm REALLY missing..... I'll share my settings of what I have so far... If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to comment. Gain at 9 oclock, drive and level at 7 oclock, Bass at 3 oclock, Low mid at 9 oclock, high mid at 7 oclock, treble at 7 oclock, volume at 9 oclock.... Bright, contour and vintage are off.......... At times, I hear a little distortion, and I don't want to use the word "farting" because it isn't that major. And again, it could be an error on my part for something not being adjusted correctly.

...Volume wise, the 500 is a little louder in the lower mids and highs, but to me, the E string notes are missing the depth. I hope that this makes sense to everyone.
Hiya,
Not quite sure what you're after, but if it were me I'd simplify - first, turn off the overdrive section. To my ears, it enhances the upper mids and reduces the low end. Then I'd put everything at 12 o'clock and see what you get. If there's too much mids (sounds as though you like a scooped sound) then push the contour button. More bass? dial some in. Push the vintage button for a punchy high-bass enhancement.
Everything on the Rumbles can be used simultaneously, but be sure to use common sense. The amp definitely has the oomph to damage the speakers if you push all the bass all the way.
Another thing - you might just like the sound of the 15" speaker in the 200 better. If that's the case, and you can return the combo, then maybe get a 500 head and the 15" cab? Or just get the 200, since you seem to like it a lot. If you need more volume, get another 200 combo down line.
there's 2 cents worth, and worth every penny.

I haven't played through the 500 combo, but on my 100, if I push the bass control too far, my B string gets worse instead of better. Simply put, the first overtone of the open E string is getting boosted so far, that the B string ends up sounding weaker in comparison.
With the settings you're describing, you're gutting the low mids at the same time that you're effectively raising the low-end cutoff frequency.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that if you dial the bass back to 1 or 2 o'clock, and bring the low mids up to at least 10 o'clock, the low end will sound wider and fuller.
A lot of us go even further, cutting the bass a hair, and boosting the low mids a little. Not as wide, but very tight and punchy.
That tone is more about limiting and compression, than it is about turning down everything except a narrow bandpass around 80 Hz or so...
