Fender Rumble Club

Might need a little more information to help ya troubleshoot your hiss. What bass(s) are you playing - active or passive? Single coils?
I like my tone better with the tweeter turned off and I can still get plenty bright if need be. I run straight into the 500c and use vintage and/or drive turned up on occasion, but never experienced any hiss - not in bright mode either.
Could be a problem with some of the pedals? Guitar player in my band has massive pedal board and occasionally picks up a local AM radio station!

Thanks!
As I said its not really been an issue before. I'm testing possible pre-amps which amplify hiss when either the treble on the amp OR treble & boost are turned up on the pre-amp. Also the Fender overdrive adds to the hiss.
But to be honest, I dont need high treble.
I play a passive Mexican Fender Jazz.
I have the tweeter off.
I did get concerned when I started to read up on noise.... theres a few things Im doing wrong here .....

I have a daisy chain pedal set up, no pedal power pack, no buffer, standard pick ups on passive bass (Mexican Fender Jazz )...... aaarrghh!!!!!!

My new Markbass Compressore is beautifully silent - no added noise there at all, that I can detect.

Comparing the Darkglass Harmonic Booster & Sansamp alongside each other, the Sansamp is much worse re hiss on higher freq. The 'presence' control aggravates this even worse. I have rejected it, mostly on that basis, but also as I didnt like the overdrive and no direct mids adjustment.

I did some recordings via xrl out from the Rumble, with the Darkglass and they're are fine. There's a small click when you turn the pedal on and off but it doesn't get amplified and hardly audible on the recordings. So the hiss is mostly only there from the cab. Using some overdrive on the Rumble also adds to the noise, but I only occasionally seek a little bit for some 'dirt'.

I'm aiming to widen my tone options and be able to push/vary the mids. The Harmonic Booster has this capability. Plus the character knob adds some presence and...well 'character'. I can live with a bit of noise.

Anyone know if the heads in the Rumble 500 and 200 combos are interchangeable? I read somewhere that the 15 in the 200 is the same speaker as the one in the 115 standalone cab (rated at 300W continuous/8 ohm). So I’m wondering if anyone has put the 500 combo head into a 200 to give that speaker closer to what it can actually handle?

I had a MIM Jazz years ago with stock pickups and when playing with the band (very loud) with some pretty heavy OD, I'd get a great deal of hiss and hum - which was only noticeable when we weren't playing and the bass was maxed volume and tone. Really made a difference when I swapped out the pickups for noiseless Seymour Duncans. But really for what we were playing then, a bit of hiss/hum and especially feedback was welcome!:bassist:

Are you playing with others? Probably really won't notice it much rocking with the boys (and/or girls!):D

 Yeah the band was going before lockdown....now its sort of hanging together, with sharing remote song writing, recordings, adding tracks, jams (BUT ITS NOT THE SAME :crying:). I suppose not regularly being in a noisy studio/venue, has found me re thinking my sound/tone options. As you say, when/if we get together again, a tiny bit of hiss , when I crank the boost knob up, will not be my main concern.....

thanks for suggestion, might consider new pick ups.....

which type of Seymour Duncans did you choose and why?
Based on a recommendation from a luthier around 03, I upgraded to a nice set of Basslines pickups - made by Seymour Duncan, but they didn't use the brand name (Seymour Duncan) until later. They were much hotter than the stock pickups, but were really only 'humbucking" with both volumes at same level. Still, they were quieter than the stock pickups if you like solo'd the bridge pickup. I no longer have that bass, but my Geddy Jazz is equipped with Dimarzio Area J's and they are super quiet and still give me the growl and tone I desire! :bassist:

That would be an excellent combo! Keep the 210 as an extension cab?

I thought the 115 cab had a different driver. My 200c is rated 140 into itself at 8 ohms (1 x 15” Eminence 80) and 200 Into 4 ohms with an 8 ohm extension. So, somebody that actually knows can chime in about the 115 cabinet. I know some out there have the 200c w 115 extension...The 500c power amp is rated 350 w into its 8 ohm cabinet (2x10” Eminence 160’s) and 500 into 4 ohms by adding an 8 ohm cab

You’re correct that the head puts out 140W @ 8 ohm to the internal 15, and 200W @ 4 ohms with an extension cab. But I have read that the speaker inside the 200C is the same speaker as the one used in the 115 standalone cabs (which the speaker is rated at 300W continuous). If this is true, then the Rumble 500C head should power the the 200C’s 15 perfectly since it would put out around 300W @ 8 ohms.

So I’d just like someone with more knowledge to confirm if:
A) The 500C head would fit into the 200C cabinet, and...
B) If the speaker in the 200C is the same 300W@ 8 ohm 15 as the one used in the regular Rumble 115 cab.

Ok I did find in this link that the 15" speakers in the 115 cab and the 200C are the same speaker, so that's cool! I could not find any info on whether or not the 500 and 200 combo heads are the same size (and swappable) tho.

Some have said the enclosure for the 15" cab is larger than the combo because of the recessed side handles. However, the smaller combo also houses the amp which is bigger than the side handles on the cab. Both enclosures have the same size ports.

Another difference is, the combo has insulation on the back of the enclosure, the 15" cab has it on the sides and back (don't know about the top because I can't see it).

I always thought the enclosure size (and ports) would be similar for the same speaker. Maybe there is magic in the insulation after all :eyebrow:?

Here is a pic. The combo on top, on it's side and the 15" cab on the bottom:
