Fender Rumble Club

First gig last night with the new Rumble 40. It had no trouble ... .., there was a chance of rain, which never came, but I added a layer of Hefty bag to the cardboard cover just in case. I was especially thankful for the cover when I had to cram the amp into the small trunk of my Lyft ride. The fast and clumsy maneuver easily could have scarred the amp without a cover. If I ever buy a real one, it will be padded.

Cool, odey! That black plastic really dresses up the brown cardboard. Good on ya.

First gig last night with the new Rumble 40. It had no trouble filling 1,500 square feet of art gallery space with background instrumental music -- see amp settings below. The Contour button was engaged. I did not realize till now how high the gain was set, but it sounded super clean. Got many complements on the sound.

That is really nicely done. And WAY more functional than the store-bought canvas bag. Glue a Fender emblem or one of those dimensional sticker/decal things on there and you're stylin'...!

Thanks, it is handy and is strong enough to serve as an amp stand since the R40 is so light. As noted above, I removed the Fender emblem from the amp, so maybe I'll glue it to the cover.

Just spent a few hours reading through this thread. Goodness this is my favorite place on TB so far.

I've dabbled on the bass since highschool as a drummer/guitar player (almost 31 years old now!) but never took it seriously until about a year ago. Bass has now become my favorite thing to play by far and I continue to get so much joy every time I pick up my P w/flats (just recently switched my "main" from a Player precision P to a 90's MIM... and here in a few weeks it will become a very special AVRI project... more to come on that later).

So far I've really only got one project that I play bass in (most bands/projects I'm a part of are on other instruments, minus the one band and playing some bass in studio sessions), so I've not really needed to get my own amp yet (either playing through my desk/daw setup, direct with reddi, or with borrowed gear). Recently I've really felt the drive to keep pushing towards playing more bass and hope to pick up more projects on the instrument, so decided it was finally time to get an amp of my own (rather than continue to borrow from pals). Was trying to decide between a 200 and 500, and ended up picking up a 500 from guitar center used online. Probably could have gotten away with a 200, but it was a good price and definitely won't mind having the extra power! It hasn't even arrived yet and I'm already kind of wanting a 40 or 100 for rehearsals/around the house noodling :D.

Excited to join the club and learn the secret handshake! Hopefully in the next week or so.

Welcome to the club! Post a pic of your 500 when you get it. That'll get you a member #. No secret handshake that I know of. But you do have to be familiar with Fender Friday!

Excellent, Shrimpy! I see you've been doing some research here on TB and, I assume, trying the Rumbles out in stores. Since you're getting a used one from GC, I hope you're picking it up at a local store? That way you can make sure everything works and approve the cosmetics before forking over the green. And, if something is wrong with it, you can also reject it without cost! ;) Otherwise, it should be a great bargain! I certainly consider my R500c (Rumble 500 combo) to be the best bang for the buck I've ever seen.

Looking forward to seeing your Rumble and inducting you into The Club. We haven't settled on a handshake yet, some of us have too strong a grip for others (dang lefties!). :rollno: But, in the meantime, you can peruse our Rumble Club Wiki page repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge, if you haven't already.

MY favorite place here too. How refreshing it is to meet a kid--er--young man who appreciates the the finer sonic expressiveness and warm tones of a Fender P Bass with flat-wound strings rather than the clanking, clattering collection of caliginous noise that comes from those ghastly round-wound piano strings so popular now-a-days... ;)

Oh, my --look at the time...

I'd do one of two things. Either vinyl wrap it with something black and colour changing or cover it in stickers.

I love the cardboard boxAmpStandCoverWithTrashWrapTM!

I did get to try out a 200 at a store and my pal's 500. Unfortunately I didn't think to have it sent to the local store to try it first and instead just had it sent to my work, but I'm not too worried about it. I've bought so much crap online over the years that I'm not too worried about it. As long as everything functions properly I'm good, don't mind physical stuff. If it doesn't function properly then... we'll cross that bridge when we get there I guess!

Been really enjoying the wiki! SO much incredible information on there.

Hah! Working on making sure I enjoy being "young" while trying to feel the urge to really get pushing because I want to have decades of doing what I love. It probably helps that the band I played with that got me really excited about bass just begs for the old-school P/flats sound, and it has been an absolute blast. I definitely enjoy playing my J w/rounds for more modern stuff when it comes up, but P w/flats will always be home. I find it works in SO many more situations than I had thought. It's only super-specific times that I really need the round-wound-piano sound in the studio .

Just as a reminder/refresher, this(1967 Gibson NR Thunderbird IV) has had nothing but flats for ~15 years(currently EBCF's, 50-105).

I feel the same way about strings as I do basses. Many of them are great but annoyingly none are perfect. And some I just plain don't like. Unfortunately for my wallet there's too many I like to list!

Flats are what I prefer generally though. So smooth.

I used to play rounds, many mango seasons ago. Don't like what they can do to fingers or frets. Also, for the record, I don't 'hate' FSO's. I started playing bass on a Gibson EB-3 in 1967. My now 76 y/o fretting hand is used to/comfortable with, Gibson/Epi neck profiles. 7enders make my left hand scream in pain.

I so agree with the necks. But I do love my rounds. My Mikro neck is so fast my fingers disappear.

If you're in a band, you need a few Rumbles. One for gigs, one for home practice, one for a bedside table, one for your feet by the TV . . .

Patent pending! Love the sticker idea. I used to have enough gear, band, and Indy car stickers to do this. Time to rebuild the collection.

Hi there,
I just joined the gang with a Rumble 40.
I read some of the mod threads and while I'm considering the S2010 driver, I will start with the @AstroSonic lining approach. Question: how much stuff should I add to the bottom and side of the cab? I am considering 4x3.5cm acoustic eggshell like foam plates.

I took the stock speaker out and wandered - considering the part# S2044 - is it also an Eminence driver?
Seems well constructed.

Tks,

Greetings, pauly! Good to 'see' you here. Show us a photo of your Rumble and get an official Rumble Club membership number! :smug:

- The amount of acoustic lining is very difficult to advise due to different types of linings' properties and your own acoustic preferences. You'll just have to try different amounts to see what sounds best to you. After all, that's probably why you've decided to do this modification, no?

- That IS a well constructed speaker. It is a Fender special design, not an Eminence. Neither the Fender nor Eminence speakers in the Rumbles are stock items that consumers can buy directly. They are only available to Authorized Fender Service Centers for repairs or replacement. ;)

I have that same speaker in my Rumble Studio 40 and it makes all the various modeling tones from that amp sound great without any modification. But, to each their own. :D

This makes me think I should have maybe removed the Celstron Pulse, replaced the stock, from my R40 when I sold it as I could have now tried it in me Studio. However, the Studio sounds great as is. And those pesky warranties.
