Fender Rumble Club

Interesting... I'll try this in a gig setting... aside from (what I hear) a slight "boost" what do you feel it gives you?

Fullness, lots of guts, less definition, A ton of rumble, more sustain.
I usually use bright & contour with the bass turned up to 2:00-2:30 instead, as I find I hear what I'm doing better and prefer the level of definition, real or perceived.

I Purchased a second rumble 800 head as a back up. I love the sound of these heads. The new head makes a loud clank sound when turning off (for lack of better description). Has anyone else experienced this?
This is funny-- minutes ago, I came here to ask if anyone has had a 500 v3 head which goes "pop" when you turn it off. :nailbiting: I did a search, with no luck.
Rumble experts: Are these noises anything to worry about?

Welcome to the Rumble Club, nat. Show us a photo of one, or both, of your Rumbles and get a membership number.

Sorry, I haven't heard of this mentioned about Rumbles before. My first thought is to make sure the volume is turned wat down when turn8ng it off. But then, I have heard other amps do this and I don't recall the volume helping them. Afraid I don't have the technical expertise to know if it’s harmful, or a sign of something wrong.

Maybe someone with more technical knowledge will chime in!
.

Thanks, G-Dog. Bassnat and I are in a nearly identical situation-- yesterday, I bought a used 500 v3 head as a backup to my other one, and I don't remember the other one popping when I turned it off. The one I got yesterday does.
Tonight, I'll A/B them.
Any tech-minded Rumble people care to answer?
The "anti-thump" feature requires a soft disconnect, that is, the audio is disconnected from the output before powering down the unit. For example, my old PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL thumped the powered monitors connected to it if I didn't power down the monitors first. My new Studio 1810c does not; it has anti-thump built-in.

One possibility for your new (to you) 500c is that the circuit/device that disconnects the audio from the speakers when powering down is damaged.

If it is damaged, is it a prelude to amp failure, or simply an annoyance I could live with?

I don't know.

There's a lot of info in this very long thread. Here's one bit I found posted by Linnin (anyone remember him? ;)) that may or may not be relevant.

================

I just received a 'heads up' on other bad things that could happen.
The External Speaker jack on Rumble 200/500 must NOT be connected to any other grounded equipment and ONLY to a speaker cabinet. This applies to the Head model speaker jacks also. Connecting the sleeve to ground (earth or chassis) may damage the power amplifier module.

At the bottom right of page 4 in the owner's manual states:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Rumble 200/500 amplifiers include a digital power
amplifier that operates in bridge mode. Both the tip (+) and sleeve (–)
have voltage present, so never ground either the tip (+) or sleeve (–) of the
speaker cable.
Always make connections with the power turned off, and
use care when making connections with cables that have non-insulated
(bare metal) type plugs. Using speaker cables with insulated bodies is
preferred, but not required.

Hey Rumblers, I know this has been discussed before here, and I did a search but couldn't find the prior discussion. I apologize for repeating a previously discussed issue.

When using my Rumble 40 XLR out, to plug into an audio interface, I believe there is a certain type of cable to use -- TS? TRS? Something else? I've tried my XLR cable with a low-Z (or high Z, I can't remember) 1/4-inch converter plug at the end, but I get no signal coming into the audio interface. Isn't there a specific type of cable for this purpose, or am I making this up? Well, don't answer that last question. o_O

You must be talking about the Studio 40. The regular 40 does not have FX SEND/RECEIVE functionality. The Studio 40 can output stereo, so I suspect you'd need a balanced XLR to TRS 1/4" cable.

Thanks Maartian. Maybe that discussion was about the Studio 40. But my Rumble 40 does have an XLR out which I can supposedly use to record, or plug into a mixer, etc. So I'm wondering if this also requires a certain type of cable, maybe the same one you mentioned? And by the way, how's life in France?
Ah. The Line Out. I was thinking about FX Send/Return. Never mind.

By brother and his wife bailed on me, so I've been living in a Residence Inn in the Chicago area. I had to hire a professional travel companion to help me move my dogs. United Airlines allows two people to bring 3 dogs as long as they buy a third (empty) seat. I've got to fly the guy into Chicago from Atlanta and fly him back to Atlanta from Paris. Costing my $14,000. And that's not counting the $150/day I'm paying for housing here. Ouch. My brother will find out that his wife will not be welcome in the new home I'm building there. That's gonna get ugly. I'm totally p'd. My boys had their international health cert tests done yesterday (had to be within 10 days of departure). Departing Saturday, the 28th, arriving Paris on the 29th, then driving to Arcachon on the 30th.

I really envy people who have close, meaningful family relationships. I the oldest of 22 cousins, but have no idea how that feels. Changed my last name decades ago. Good thing, too, now that a distant cousin with the same last name is now in the U.S. House of Reps. A real right-wing Prussian a-hole who quietly despises anyone not pale white. I'm embarrassed very time he gets interviewed on TV.

My family emigrated from Prussia in the 1840's though the 1860's. Then they decided that the U.S. was THEIR country and the heck with everyone else.

Yikes! I am very sorry to hear that about your move, the family issues, and the (gulp) cost of paying for the travel companion's flight etc. Family issues are the worst kind of issues to have, I believe (since I've got a couple myself). Well, at least you've got the 30th to look forward to, arriving in Arcachon. Best of luck with the transition and getting through the next couple of weeks without further aggravation (fingers crossed).

Thanks. As long as the sun doesn't come up in the west, I should be good to go. My new Vespa is waiting for me!

I, too, am saddened to hear about the problems with your move. I hope things work out for you and look forward to positive updates.
