My rumble journey started a couple years ago... I took up the bass in 2017 and once I started playing with other muso's about a year later, bought myself this little rig to get me on my way

After lugging this around to a few rehearsals with my new band mates I quickly realised, that while exceptionally loud and rather impressive looking, this rig was just way over the top for what I was doing. So I started shopping around and eventually landed on the remarkable Rumble 200 combo.... I was pretty impressed with this right off the bat. It handled itself quite nicely even after we brought a (loud) drummer in. But I was always worried, after countless amp experts telling me "YOU NEED MORE WATTS" that it wouldn't stand up in gig conditions... well, I have since done at least 15 gigs in varying venue sizes/set ups and can say that it's NEVER once let me down... I'm now starting to learn how to dial in the tones for the venues and getting great results.... my last gig (Friday just gone), I had a bassist from an Iron Maiden tribute band come up and compliment me on the tone I was getting... even though I'm not the least bit interested in Iron Maiden (no offence to any fans out there) this was quite the compliment and I was pretty chuffed!

So that's me and a bit of my Bass/fender Journey so far. My basses are:

late 90's CIJ Fender P - vintage white with maple neck/fretboard, white pickguard
(the first "real" bass I bought)

2019 US Fender J Professional Series - Olympic White, mint pickguard, maple neck/fretboard
(Wedding anniversary present from my wife)

Sterling By MM SUB - mint p/g, rosewood
(my current gigging bass - I freakin LOVE this thing!)

2017 Squier Vintage Modified PJ, tort p/g, rosewood
(my first bass)

Squier Affinity P Bass, black p/g, rosewood
(will be a project bass for a bit of fun)

Hi Rumblers! An exciting addition to my rumble family today... just took delivery of my V3 210 cab to pair with with my 200 combo... Hard to get a feel for how it sounds here in my garage, but let's just say it's living up to its name! The WHOLE garage was literally rumbling before with the vol at about 11 o'clock.

I've made some other changes to the stable above having off-loaded the CIJ P bass and the Squier Affinity and replaced them with a EBMM Stingray Classic and a Sterling BMM RAY24. Both killer basses! Also my SBMM SUB has had an upgrade with a new mojotone pre and Aguilar AG4M pickup. Beast! I am BUSTING to play the US Ray through my new rig in a live environment... living in Melbourne Aust. means I have no idea when this will be, given our current COVID situation down here Hoping for Mid-late Sept.

Here is the new rig in all its glory....epic!

I've made a seismic shift over the last 12 months or so absolutely falling in love with the Stingray tone... I started out with Fender as everyone told me to get a P bass... then experimented with various P basses/tones and ended up gravitating towards the Jazz bass (which I love) for its renowned "growl"... then I bought the SBMM SUB for a bit of fun, and WOW, was I surprised at how it well it cut through the mix. My bands singer loved the change in tone and since then it has been my go to for gigs... and I've since been chasing "that" pure stingray tone until I eventually ended up with the US Classic as a gift from my wife for my 50th... it hasn't seen a gig yet... not even a rehearsal! Hopefully soon.

Gotta love a stingray. Similar here, having played a Jbass for years, I bought a Sterling by Musicman Singray Ray34 this year. Man, the range of tones you can get is incredible, especially with a rumble stack. Not yet gigged with it but loving it in rehearsals.

Hope situation in Aus improves soon. When you get that first rehearsal /gig, you'll have a permanent grin on your face with the Stingray

Gotta love a stingray. Similar here, having played a Jbass for years, I bought a Sterling by Musicman Singray Ray34 this year. Man, the range of tones you can get is incredible, especially with a rumble stack. Not yet gigged with it but loving it in rehearsals.

yeah man I can’t wait. It’s funny I play all three rays equally and tone wise I don’t know which one I like best. I really do love them all and they each have their own characteristics. My Ray34 is FREAKING AMAZING! What a great bass - especially for the money!

what tone settings are you using on your rumble stack? Depending on the room it can vary slightly to but I normally go something like this.

Then on the bass I dial the treble to about 11 o’clock and bass at 12 o’clock. This seems to work for most situations.

So, basically, you are running your Rumble close to flat, with a Treble boost. From tests, "flat" on Rumbles is 10-2-2-10.

Love your setup.

Thanks! I call that a happy accident! I only ever went with those settings to get my PJ and P bass cutting through the mix and have just pretty much stuck with it. I think with the stingrays I could dial back the treble a fraction.

Must say I’m getting a nice fat, gritty tone happening at the moment.

Yes, the Ray34 is awesome for my budget. I didnt dare try the full American versions, in case I sensed any superiority?!! ignorance is bliss, ha ha.

Those EQ setting look similar to my default (as Themaartian says, its pretty flat with boosted treble). I actually dial the treble back from flat on the rumble and boost on the bass as needed. I sometimes add mids, depending on the space/song we play.

Im not a big metal fan, but i do really like the metallic 'twacks/twangs' you can utilise with the Stingray playability. Plus how subtle the tone can be readily adapted from funk to rock....
I had a small doubt afterwards that i could have got the HH version, but im now more than content with the single pup.

Ive got a 500c & 210 cab so 4 x10 with plenty of punch. But rumbles can always offer tons of low end when required.

Still not gigged with full rig but UK is opened up. We're getting there with new singer, drummer.... Won't be too long!

Love my Sterling Ray though the R200 w 2x10 cab. It is The Funk Master!!!

I'd sure trade you my 2x10 for a rumble 12 in cab. I'd just fit me better.

As mentioned b4, I had a 112. Paired with my 200c it was perfect. But it almost never got used as at most of our venues, the 200c was overkill. After a year of it sitting under the dining room table, I sold it-at no loss-but if we ever start playing bigger places, I'd look for another-maybe.

I use 10-2-2-10 as 'default'-or 'my fault'?-, adjust to the room, and often add BRIGHT for presence. VINTAGE always on.

Yikes! I hear and agree. Actually, speaking as a young'un to you Davy, I'd be on Tramadol for several days after moving an all tube Bassman & two 115s! Why I even get my grandsons to help if I have to take my 17 lb. hybrid Bassman 500 and one 115. ​

... ... One of my bands is working on a new CD and we have been having weekly recording sessions. ... .... I decided to use the 500 head because direct in with no DI doesn't sound that good. Hence forth I will use the 500 head. It came out with fantastic tone. All EQ straight up and Vintage on, Gain at 3 and Volume at 3. ... I love all my Rumbles. The only other amp I use is when the venue is outdoors or large enough, I will tale a Tramadol and lug in my Bassman 100T and 2 Fender 1x15s.... ... Thank you, Leo.
