Fender Rumble Club

I bought a 4-Button Footswitch for my Studio 40. Don't know why. Haven't used it yet...maybe I will find out when I connect it :wacky:.

I just bought one too. Will come in handy when I want to change amp models during sets. I have 3 settings I want to use currently. Of course, that may change once we actually play out. And it'll make it easier to check my tuning.

Ha-a-a-ang on, sloppy! sloppy, hang on! Yeah! (yeah!) Yeah! (yeah!) No worries. Always a good time to welcome a new member!

@sloppy_phil, you are now member #1389 in the Fender Rumble Club.
Congratulations and welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Club in particular. Make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge, such as the Rumble Compatible Footswitches section you may be interested in.

Aha! I see some of our very helpful Rumblers have already recommended some footswitches, (and its super-secret muting functionality, which is just one of many tips, tricks & trivia in the Rumble Talks section of the Wiki)!

Well, sloppy, any relation to the famous "joe" of a similar name? How about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? Whatever your situation you're sure to fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ...

Rumble On!
.

LMAO What a welcome! Afraid there aren't any Joes in my family; I'm the only namesake. And I don't even mind getting officially welcomed to TB, despite just hitting my 10yr anniversary hanging out here; never too late to make a chap feel right at home ;)

I definitely appreciate the mute trick via the footswitch you folks are wise to! I don't expect to make much use of the OD channel at rehearsal, but muting capability is definitely something to keep in the back pocket. With some rare exceptions, I'm expecting this R40 to live at one of my band's rehearsal spaces. After 18 months on hiatus, I'm slowly back to being a full-time musician, and the previous amp at that rehearsal space just wasn't gonna cut it anymore. It was almost overpowered by a cajon! Now that the drummer is back to playing full kit, I needed to upgrade. It's not an especially noisy/loud band, but the core of the music is reggae, so I definitely want to put out some appropriately fat n heavy low end. The Rumbles are, I feel, kinda overpriced new in shop (the 40w would have cost me $325 Canada Bucks after tax!), so I waited patiently, and snagged one on the used market instead. Very much looking forward to putting the amp through its paces on Tuesday night (next time that band is rehearsing).

I expect there may be the odd "coffee house" type gig where I could see this amp having enough heft to carry things, but for now I'm hoping this is the last practice amp I'll need to buy! I've played plenty of the micro rigs, and ultimately it was between a Rumble, and one of those Ampeg micro fridges. Though I really dig the tone (and looks) of the Ampegs, at less than half the price, it was pretty tough to look past the R40!

Here is something that came to my mind today. I got LT25 as a home practice amp. I wanted modeling amp to play a little with different amps and effects. Loving some of the presets and I wish I could use them with the band.
Obviously 25 watts won’t do it so is there any way I can hook it up to the 500 v3 combo?
Because LT25 doesn’t have DI here is what I was thinking. Not sure it will work and I rather ask someone here first before I blow something up.
So here is the chain:
1. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo AUX

2. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Effects Return

3. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Instrument Input

4. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 USB —> ??? —> 500 v3 combo ????

For what it's worth (and it may indeed not be much at all!), I was able to add a speaker output jack to an Orange Crush guitar amp I had years ago. The amp was great, but the dinky stock speaker sucked. Running it through a bigger cab made the amp come to life. It was only 10w, but suddenly in a 4x12 was complete overkill!

Assuming this mod is even possible here (or that you'd even want it done!), you could run a line out from the new jack into the effects return of the 500 combo. Or even just run your amp into a much bigger cabinet, and see if that gives you the volume/power you need.

Oulps! Well! Ya got me there, slop! I dunno what came over me. Yes, I do. I'm usually very meticulous and precise. Well, I was in my working career, which I ended 8 years ago. This just never happens to me. Yes, it does, it happens all the time. I have perfect eyesight! No, I have nearly operable cataracts. And I'm in perfect health! No, I get occasional touches of "old timers" and dyslexia all the time. But, I apologize for ... uh, auto-correct making that mistake. Yeah, that's it, auto-correct mistook your TB join date for this year and threw in that "welcome to TB" part! That's the ticket, auto-correct messes up, again! Sorry about that.

Welcome to The Club, again.

Yeah, sloppy, that's a fairly popular DIY project linked as "Separating Combo Amp and Speaker" in the Rumble Modifications section of your Rumble Club Wiki page.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa, there, slop, man! Don't ever run a speaker output into the FX Return of an amp!! That's a high voltage speaker signal that could damage either, or both amps! I wouldn't recommend anything other than FX Send or pedal signals into the FX Return jack.

Well noted! Not trying to kill anybody or their amps here on my first day in the club. Figure I ought to wait at least a week before we go there…

it’s only 25 watts and I don’t think that bigger cab would make that much of difference in a band setting.
Right now when I use my 500 combo alone I have to have master at 3 o’clock, maybe little less if I crank gain a little.
I prefer to stay away from any mods.

I am glad I am reading this first :) thanks

Not so sure about that ….;)

Something new to play through the Rumble rig. Great old school tone! Kenny approves! (and Yes I know...the strings are too short! Aparently short scale strings are too short for this short scale bass. Just ordered some medium scale length GHS Precision Flats)

Bass -> LT25 input -> LT25 USB -> USB recording interface -> 500 v3 FX return.

You don't even have to spend a lot of money to try this out. Behringer's UMC22 \usb audio interface box can be had for well under $50.

One last thing.
Let’s say I manage to connect LT25 with 500 v3 combo via usb audio interface into 500 FX Return; will I still be able to use master volume on 500?
My goal is to use 500 power amp for the presets from LT25, I don’t need just an extra speaker for 25 watts.
Can someone confirm that before I spend my money on the interface?

As I discovered with mine. Medium scale D'addario tapes. (Can't put up a pic. Not on my PC)
