Auditioning a guitarist to add to our band tonight. Third one. Two more to go after this (tomorrow and Monday). The first 2 won't be selected. We'll see how these 3 turn out. This is tiring. Kind of like interviewing, and it takes us away from adding new songs till we get through these auditions.

We've got our first gig Saturday. It's a neighborhood party that we're doing for free just to get out and play. We'll only play for about 1:15 or so. We'll do it as a 4 piece, with our singer doing some rhythm guitar. He's not great. Just adds a little fill. Looking forward to playing for an audience. I'll be using my Stage 800, which I'm sure will be more than enough for the gig. Haven't turned it up past 10:00 with my bass at half volume during rehearsals.

So this weekend coming up, my 2 Rumble v3 210 cabs are finally getting the speakers replaced. I talked about it over a year or so ago when I blew 1 speaker and had a hell of a time finding replacements. One of the fellows at Fender sent me 1 that he took out of a dead 500 combo and sent it for free.

I had a long talk with Eminence about what is a good speaker replacement since they aren't allowed to give the specs on the stock Fender speaker. The fellow I spoke with recommended the Delta 10 16ohm for the 210 cabs. I bought 2 and have been sitting in the boxes ever since. Fast forward to early August, loaned out both cabs to a fellow bass player here. The oldest h cab now has toasted speakers and the new one is on the verge of going. I knew this would happen, didn't care as I had replacements ready. But didn't think the 2nd cab would go down too. He was only using his Rumble 500 combo with each cab for a weekend and that's all it took.

So I'm hoping the Deltas will sound good. They are very mid focused speakers, so here's hoping. When it is done, they will be rated 8ohm and very real 700w each. 1400w total. Let's hope the Rumbles don't eat them anymore.

I'll report back. I'll A/B the stock one that is still somewhat good with the Delta cab before I totally redo them.

Wow...I'm interested in the circumstances behind this one. I mean, what are the chances that one person could get two defective cabs? I haven't read of any common occurences in this thread.

Not defective, just the speakers not holding up. I personally think they over rated for what they really are, as in they are rated for more watts than they can really handle. I've had the first cab since 2015 or 16. And the 2nd since 2018 or 19. And I play the Rumble 500 head through them.

I think its the use of heavy Fuzz ( for 1 song) and Dirty Boost that has been pushing the speakers too far. Plus we use to play a lot of places with no PA support outside of vocals and maybe kick. So I don't think the speakers can take that much.

The old cab my buddy borrowed had the first replacement speaker in it From Fender, the one pulled out of a dead combo. But I knew the speakers were getting ready to go, they seemed to have rub happening. And the 2nd cab is starting to sound like that now. My buddy uses a TON of Treble with his Jazz and a finger player. I mainly use flats on my P with 90% fingers with a lot of heavy lows. The 1st cab just sounds like distorted flub at low volume now, 2nd only when turn up to gigging volume.

There is probably a 100 or so gigs on the 1st cab. I used 1 cab and the 500 head for long bit, but then split duty with my GK MB212ii combo for the rest of the time AND added the 2nd cab to help make everything sound bigger and less push on each cab (sounds amazing). All gigs this year have been my Bassman 500 and Bassman Pro410 cab. (Played our 1st gig this year last month and only a few since)

I was going to do the speaker swap to try them out some time ago, but then world imploded and I kinda just left my gear alone outside of fussing with pedals via headphones at home and practicing the same way. It ws only now that we released our first album and got back to playing out a bit, that I even remembered the speaker swap. I didn't even see my band mates for a year and half. The bass and drums were done pre pandemic and they rest was done mostly remotely during. I was suppose to re-record a couple tracks, but that never happened. Ended up with my live track with the drums. We did the drums and bass live in a single afternoon. So a lot of what I was doing was the less is more for that with the intention to redo some. Oh well.

This is interesting. I wonder what others have found and, more importantly, what you will replace the speakers or entire cabs with? Please keep us posted.
Right now, Eminence Delta 10's @16ohm. They are rated @350w each. This was the recommendation from the fellow @Eminence I spoke with. He wasn't able/allowed to give me the full specs on the ones they build for Render for the Rumble series. But he said these Delta 10's are the closest to the original you will find off the shelf. From the specs, the Deltas are VERY mid driven in the frequencies.

Interesting. I've never had any Rumble higher than noon GAIN or VOLUME. I take the one that fits the room/gig. So that's 40, 100, or 200c. We never have PA support but we're also playing for a 55+ audience that doesn't want loud. No speaker problems on any. The 200c is now 6 years old. The 40's about 5 y/o and the 100 is maybe 3+ 1/2(?).

I bought my 200 charlie the day the new v3's hit Sweetwater. Never gig'd, but used pretty much every day in my studio. GAIN and VOLUME at 9-10. Sounded as sweet as new up to the day I had to sell it (not multi-voltage).

My gear hasn't shipped yet from the States, so it'll be awhile until I can replace it here. I'll be getting a 210 cab for an, um, amp stand?:bassist:
