I never really noticed it before, but the Vintage button on my Rumble 500 gives it a significant volume boost when engaged. Is this normal?

I know it's supposed to give it a fatter sound, but didn't realize how much louder it is with it on.

I was running it through some paces to try to figure out why someone else's Rumble 500 I played through seemed louder and it may have been that his Vintage button was engaged and I didn't notice.

You'd think I would have noticed that before now but I just found the tone out of the box was working for me and went with it. I know that's kind of silly but that's me.

To me, it sounds "fuller". I always use VINTAGE. BRIGHT if the room is 'boomy'. Tried CONTOUR-nope.

:roflmao: Yes! Yes, indeed, you do, Doc!! And I mistype 'Rumbke' ... Every. Single. Time that I don't tap the suggested 'Rumble' spelling atop my virtual keyboard! Sometimes I catch and correct it. Sometimes I don't.:roflmao::laugh:
.
That typo always reminds me of Polish Gołąbki (golumpki). My first of three ex's was Ukrainian, conceived in Ukraine, born in the U.S. Her mother made these all the time. Yum!

It's funny because for the first time in two years, I turned the Vintage button off and tweaked the EQ to my liking (boosted lows and low-mids and slightly attenuated high-mids and treble) and like the tone better. There seems to be significantly more clarity with strong, but less muddy lows. I guess it's always good to explore a bit once in awhile.

According to the published spec of the Vintage button it's just some compression and a low pass. Perhaps that frequency cleanup gives the perception of more volume.

Likewise, I read that the bass "boost" on my Bassman is actually a cut in the mids! Strange what tricks acoustics can play. :woot:

That's why I have always used my 200 instead of my 100. It just puts out a nice layer of bass tone that seems to fill the room. But the 100 still records better with a Shure SM57.
I like the sound of 2x12s. The one 12 in the R100 sounds v.g. and its slightly smaller size(and weight)saves a little space in the cart I use to schlep all my [stuff] into our gigs. Someday* I'll get a second R100 to daisy chain/alternate.

*prolly never:(

I've daisy chained my 100 to my 200 at an outdoors gig and it did a great job! Two 100s would be great.
