Well, RL, you know what they say about the fullness of 15" drivers! If one is good, then two is better! Your Stage can drive 'em both!, just think of the richness you could get from 2x10" and 2x15"!!!

Well, I already have a 2x10 extension cab to go with my Stage 800 combo, so it would only be one 1x15 cab. That should certainly bring the amp up to ear(splitting) level.

The amp has issues. No point in rewiring atm as all I have is two Rumble 100s - which don’t want the lower impedance of a second speaker.

Heyo! I picked up a Rumble 800 combo over the weekend for a mere $679 new (plus a $50 gift card, so really for $629). I played the 500 v3 in a rehearsal space a few weeks back and could not believe how good it made my bass (and me) sound.

I have been playing bass for about six months (I came over from guitar, which I liked well enough, but bass always interested me more, plus some friends needed a bass player, so...). The Rumble blows the doors off the anemic 150 watt Ampeg that has not been enough for a loud drummer and two guitarists. Can't wait to try it out with them this week.

My daily driver is a Sandberg Electra VS 4 but I also play a Mustang PJ (which I have heavily customized) and a pliers-and-wood-filler fretless Stingray Sterling SUB from the 2010s (with an upgraded Nordstrand pickup that is just monstrous) that I got off of Reverb for a song.

I like the Ampeg sound so I'm still using my SGT-DI pedal. It goes nicely with the Rumble so far. I do wonder if anyone ever velcros these preamps to the top of their amps to save the constant bending down and fiddling? It would also free up some slots on my diminutive pedalboard.

To follow up on @GonePlaid 's "amp stands" suggestion, I get my Ampeg sound by selecting an Ampeg preset on my Studio 40 and chaining its FX Send to the FX Return on my AT Cube 500.

Retirement has given me the time to pursue bass and I'm glad I did. I am self taught in guitar And now bass, but am a much better bass player. Plus the educational offerings online are so much more plentiful and sophisticated than they were decades ago. I ripped through Bass Buzz in about two months and now I'm working through Talking Bass' curriculum, which I think should keep me busy for a year or two. I'm in one band and about to join a second if they'll have me (still auditioning).

My Sire arrived yesterday, it’s been mellowing in the box and I’ll open it tonight. Then I plan to follow those same 2 online resources myself! I’m excited, I had started learning Money with a borrowed bass. But I don’t think you’re supposed to play with 2 fingers and thumb, a La guitar finger style!

Unless you're taking lessons in a particular bass playing style, I don't think any technique should be "outlawed"! Music is art. Yes, there are traditions in art & music. But I do not believe in laws that can only restrict creativity and enjoyment, IMNSHO.

I play that way sometimes, and I play with a pick a lot of the time (also guitar style). Play however you want, and enjoy it!

Chiming in to agree with others. I played with two fingers and thumb in an instrumental trio because it fit the music. Play and enjoy!

Whew! She’s BRIGHT! The neck and headstock are darker than I’d prefer, but lighter than a lot of the pics I’ve seen. There’s a hint of tiger striping. The fretboard binding is… well I’d choose not to have it if that were an option. I admit this was one thing I thought about in comparing to the V3P. The inlays appear flush with the fretboard and there are no gaps. There is a bit of fret sprout to deal with at some point and I will raise the E string saddle a bit like I did on my tele. I’m sure improved technique will help but I don’t love the rattle. The tuners feel good and look good, I have no complaints. Yeah, there’s some neck dive on my lap but I’m not bothered by it; I didn’t know that was a thing until I read about it online anyway. I have a 3” wide Franklin leather strap that fits this bass way better than my tele, I’m happy about that.

As soon as I ordered it the second guessing started. Should I have just gotten the P5? Should I have gone with the Spector Legend 4? The Ibanez SR400 something or other…? Nah! It sounds great! Better than the borrowed Yamaha by a long shot. I’ve got a looong way to go before my skill will reveal any shortcomings in this instrument. I am purely tickled. Besides, this is just my first bass, not my only bass. Right?

Uh, ... ... , um, ... ya lost me already, Ott. Does she sound BRIGHT, or look BRIGHT?? And does the neck & headstock look darker than you'd prefer, while also looking lighter than others you've seen?? ​

I see some very nice longitudinal grain. Is that the tiger striping? I really dunno, but I'd expect striping to be transverse, but whaddaIknow..

It'll be interesting to see if your use makes the neck back lighter or darker. Although, it's not unusual for some to take some extra light sandpaper, or emerypaper, to the neck back to smooth it out and make it easier to slide up & down. But, that could lighten it by removing the topmost, darkest stained, layer. Still, your choice, no judgment. ​

Quite right, Ottly! May this be but the first of many enjoyable basses for you!! You're also right that the 3" grippy strap will take care of a good bit of neck dive, if not all of it.

The green is bright! I wasn’t sure, some pics made it look pastel, some made it more saturated. It really is like my pic.

The color of the roasted maple on these basses varies quite a lot from honey to chestnut to very dark brown. I prefer the lighter tint; this one is darker than I’d pick off the rack but it’ll do. I’m glad it’s not darker.

The transverse tiger is very subtle. The lengthwise grain is very straight without excessive runout as the neck thins towards the headstock, and in parallel plane with the fretboard. I wonder if this is the best orientation for tuning stability? We’ll see.

Finish on the back of the neck is satin, a major selling point of these Sires vs the Classic Vibe Squiers, for me at least. It feels great! No need to get after it with sand paper. It’ll be a while before I wear through it.

I’m gonna need a delay pedal if I want to play One of These Days…

It's a compelling read, a great memoir. She always struck me as the coolest Go-Go.

I only need one bass. And yet I have three for playing and one for modding. Maybe two and two. And constantly talk myself out of more. So you'll be fine with one. Until you won't. But for now, just enjoy that sucker!

I far prefer that to the quiet greens that seem so prevalent. Gorgeous.
