Fender Rumble Club

Thanks for the heads up! I live about 20 minutes from the Crestwood GC. The 410 is more than I would ever need, but it sure would look cool underneath my Bassman 800, which is also more than I would ever need! :)
My pleasure, I hope it finds and nice new home. I'm simply going a different route (112s) and needed to make room. They tested it with an R500 head, so they should have what you need to give it a listen!

Well, @basss, don't leave us in suspenders! Have you checked with the club, yet? What model Rumble is it? A 40 or a 100? Come on, Nosy, ... ... er, ... enquiring minds want to know!
.

While I definitely want to know the answer, I also like the idea of G-Dog having to wear suspenders 24/7. Such conundrums...

I have a big rig (two, actually), but I bought a Rumble 100 a while back thinking I would use it mostly as a stage monitor when I have plenty of p.a. support, and I do. But, I have run a line to it across a large stage so the guitarist can hear me (no monitor for him), I have used it "bare foot" as a rig in small settings and churches, I have used it to play recorded music through, and, of course, I have used it for a practice amp many, many times. I am getting quite a bit of use out of this small, lightweight box! If you had told me a couple of years ago how I would find uses for it, I would not have believed you.

Hi, Everybody!
Time for an 800c update, winter edition:

So, it’s been about six months, and I’ve played more than a dozen shows in almost as many venues — small bars, bigger bars, two outdoor events… plus, rehearsals and time spent in the bedroom practicing. Bottom line: I’m very pleased. The 800 combo does everything I need: it sounds great (and consistently so) at low and high volumes; it responds well to EQ adjustments and is extremely versatile; it’s lightweight and easy to gig with…

I love the voicing buttons; even though I don’t use them a ton, I find them very convenient for quick adjustments—like if the room is too boomy, hit the “bright” switch, and voilà — maybe not the perfect or most elegant solution, but a very handy quick fix. Same with the “vintage” button — in fact, even more so — it quickly fills up the bottom end while leaving the dials where I like them. Speaking of which, the info I’ve found on here — especially the “Ampeg settings” someone shared — have helped me find some sounds I otherwise wouldn’t have dialed in so soon if ever. Also, the 0 gain trick… I really like that. It sounds smoother.

If you look back at my first post after having played live with the amp, you’ll see that I was surprised how high I had to turn it to get the volume I needed… Most of the time my band uses a mixer to run FOH through a pair of Bose speakers and one Bose subwoofer. I use the line out (post setting) and the amplifier itself becomes my “forward-facing monitor” and personal massager, :roflmao: pumping out plenty of bass, pushing plenty of air. The few times I’ve not had FOH support (or during loud rehearsals), I stand by what I said — it’s plenty loud enough and still has some headroom— but yeah, if I were playing that way regularly, I’d have bought an extension cabinet by now. My Rumble 40 (linked via the effects out) helps a lot, though, so I’m not sure I would genuinely need a cab.

Anyway, I know that the debate will continue over which Rumble is best, whether 15” or 10” or 12” speakers sound best, and so on… That’s the fun of the forum! But for me, the 800 is the cat’s pajamas, the bee’s knees, the kipper’s knickers.

Tonight I discovered while trying to play Killing in the Name that vintage + overdrive on my R100v3 sounds pretty dang good. I had the bridge pickup and tone knob all the way off on my J, and when I dialed the bridge back on it was eye opening! Then for grins I also played Landslide on my tele through the R100, and was pleasantly surprised at the sound. Made me confident that I could get my 8-yo an electric guitar and not have to get him another amp!

Confession time.
I had recently brought home an older Fender Rumble 150.
Once I had it in a very quiet environment, I realized the sound wasn't as good as I thought it was.
Long story short.
I have a Rumble 40 back that sounds much better and weighs (close to) nothing.
It's a keeper!
Still have my 150 and I still take her out occasionally, but she's now mostly my practice amp.

Yeah mate, that Vintage button is dynamite on the overdrive channel!

Hi,
Just joined, I am a bass player (very amateur) with my Sire V7 Marcus Miller 4-strings with John East preamp J-RETRO and Rumble V3 500.

I have had several problems with it and still trying to fix them (e.g. pushbuttons very low quality and easily started to make noises so I had to replace all of them by mechanical ones, at least I have the schematics and helped me a lot) but the sound has started to require activate brightness to get some punch, lost a bit of presence (my bass strings are new). Most likely I will reuse the cabinet with an external head amp, but for the time being I would like to see whether I could fix it in some way, Rumble 500 is a great amp and it dod a great job at the beginnning (programmed obsolescence?)

I was thinking to review the foam of the cabinet, do you think that it could affect the sound in that way? (i.e. loosing some presence)
Usually I use all the EQ in flat and control a bit bass/treble and mids from East preamp but just a bit. (To be honest I have tried in several ways but I am aware that I am not a professional bass player so most likely I am not doing the right things)

Agree! Overdrive plus vintage is a lot of fun :) Overdrive alone seems to suck out the bottom end but the vintage puts it back in, and some. Then I get told to turn down when I'm channeling my inner JHE...

My own Rumble 500 turns 10 years old this spring with no loss of presence nor any physical problems in all that time. I don't know how the cabinet foam could change the sound over time. How long have you had it? When you say "all the EQ in flat" do you mean all pointing up at 12 o'clock? That's not really flat response. Try 10 o'clock bass, 2 o'clock both mids and 10 o'clock treble for actual flat setting.

Also, be sure the Overdrive is not On with low counterclockwise Drive & Level settings, because fully counterclockwise mutes all sound!

Finally, try connecting an instrument cable from the FX Send to the FX Return. If that helps, then a little cleaning of the FX Return jack is needed.

So, Toni, how's about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to. ... ... ...

Thanks @G-Dog!! Just added my number to TB signature. I am reviewing the WIki, a lot a lot of knowledge there.
I have got my Rumble in 2019 when I came back to playing bass after more than 30 years. Our band born in ‘80s and we switched off ’85. We decided to come back for playing and since 2019 we are already together (same musics). I decided to buy a bass medium profile (Sire Marcus Miller V7) and someone recommended me the RUmble 500. I have been learning how to play again the bass from 101, that is why I consider myself very amateur and in a continuous improvement process but enjoying a lot. Rumble did a great job at the beginning but started to show problems with the sound. That made me uncomfortable during the rehearsals but was not easily reproducible the problems so I am still with it!
Now with your comments I have just realized that I did not the right things with “EQ Flat”! I thought it was 12 o’clock so I will try your suggestion and will read all the links that you kindly sent.
Overdrive started to have problems too due to the pushbutton, so I had to replace it too and now at least works, but just learned in this Fender Rumble Club that Overdrive+Vintage is a good combination so I wil try it! thanks

I have tried too connecting an instrument cable from the FX Send to the FX Return but I will pay more attention to it.

Anyway, I have talked too much, sorry, a “long play” :-D

Now it is time to read deeply your wiki and try to get the maximum from my Rumble (at least as combo backup as I already ordered a head amp to connect with Rumble Cabinet)

If you don’t mind - what is the SPV on your bass?

Great introduction, Toni. Thanks. :D Don't worry about talking too much. That's why we're here. It's TalkBass, after all!

That's the first pushbutton replacements with switches I've ever seen! Was that before, or after, the loss of presence sound problem?

You couldn't have known about the "all 12 o'clock settings" versus actual flat 10,2, 2,10 as we didn't even learn that here in The Club until early 2018! But, it has helped some of us since then.

To use your Rumble 500's speakers with an external amp head see the "Separating a Combo's amp and Speakers" link in the Rumble Modifications section of your Rumble Club Wiki. ;)

Again, Toni, welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Rumble Club in particular..

Thanks again @G-Dog ,the loss of presence was before the replacement. The pushbuttons are actually very bad quality (once you open them) and due to the fact that it is supposed to be used quite often, are very fragile. Now with the switch much better and no strange cracking sounds appear (the most complicated task was to wire them to the PCB)

Rumble Club Wiki is awesome, a lot of tips and tricks are explained (I am vey lucky to join you!)
