Fender Rumble Club

I interpreted the PSI as a thermal (heat) protection rather than a level indicator. I am sending Fender an email today asking if the mod is possible.

! Has that approach worked for you before? I'd certainly be shocked if any manufacturer answered in the affirmative to such an enquiry, much less give assistance. 7ender doesn't even make OEM parts available to anyone but their Authorized Fender Service Centers. They've always seemed to be in the "No User Serviceable Parts Inside" persuasion. But, I could be wrong. Please, do keep us apprised of any answer whatsoever, will you? :woot:

Ready for the road, whenever that may come. More for storage actually. I finally got my new gig bags cabinet covers. I already had the head bag.

This is what's inside (the bass guitar may vary).

Hey all - I have had the Fender Rumble 800 (not the on-stage) for about a year now. Overall happy with it - lightweight, loud and does the job. I would say my only complaint is really the weird EQ and the fact that noon is not flat (thanks to this club I know how to set it flat). I suppose that wouldn't really matter except that I find when I push the amp at louder volumes (about noon for both Gain and Master Volume) it seems I get more high end, so much so that I have to turn the tweeter off at higher volumes. I prefer a darker sound, so I just adjust the EQ at higher volumes to suit my taste.

Recently I purchased the 2x10 extension cabinet. I really don't need to be any louder but I figured I would get a bigger, fuller sound which could be cool for times I am willing to carry an extra cabinet! The cost was not prohibitive so I figured why not.

Well once hooked up I noticed really high treble output even at lower volumes with this setup. Again, tweeters off in both cabinets. I had to completely roll off the treble control and lower the tone pot on my Jazz bass half way to get my desired tone. It's really not THAT dark - I mean I just like to take the high away enough to get a thicker sounding D/G string with less noise.

I actually found myself using my Tech21 Q-Strip which has an LPF and that helped a lot.

It seems when run together the frequency range/voicing of the speakers goes really high. I mean the fact that the treble control is at 10,000kHz makes me think they are voiced high to begin with - and maybe its accentuated when stacked.

I don't know - maybe I'm doing something wrong, I don't think my preferred soundscape is that radical. I tend to like more vintage sounds but I don't like a muffled, tone completely rolled off sound either. I'm probably gonna send the extension cab back unless anyone has any suggestions...Thanks for reading

Actually, I've learned that the non-flat EQ at all 12 o'clock settings is pretty standard among amp manufacturers. They know most people start there, and they figure an actual flat tone is not so flattering. So they set all 12s to be their "signature tone" on purpose.

It's not unusual to need some EQ adjustments at different volume/power levels. But I am surprised to hear that the treble gets so much louder than other frequencies at higher volume.

Hmmm, ... That does seem strange, jr. The coupling effect of vertically stacked speakers "will seem to go lower" and "will increase low frequency extension". But you seem to be getting the opposite! I don't have a good explanation for that.

I've also seen your post about the frequencies of the Rumble's controls. But, I think that's mainly just due to the difference between 3-band, bass-mid-treble, and the wider 4-band, bass-lomid-himid-treble, EQs. And, of course, those numbers are just the centers of the curves they control, not pinpoints. I, for one, have never heard the Rumbles being called "voiced high" before! Sorry.

I'm very sorry, but I'm at a loss here, jr. Hopefully, other Rumblers here with similar setups can offer suggestions! :wideyed:

I will say the coupling effect is probably working because the low end is definitely bigger. I guess everything is bigger. I actually think a lot of people will love the stack - it's loud and articulate in all ranges. That makes sense, then you EQ more to your taste. It's funny I would say the clarity reminds me more a Hartke then a more older school sounding cabinet which I always equated a Rumble with. So all good - just maybe not my cup of tea.

Well, I have read that the Neo speakers in the R800c itself sound brighter and more articulate than the ceramic speakers in the R500c and 210 cab. Does that agree with your experience, too?

I don't get the brighter that people hear at all. But of course we all hear differently. The low end is definitely fuller and bigger. If anything, I add a tiny bit more high mids and treble to my usual settings. So far everyone hearing it thinks the low end is fuller, thicker sounding, but clear, articulate, and great note separation, and not muddy at all. Because of what I hear here, I ask if they think it is bright sounding and all say no, not at all. All positive.

So on first point -- to be clear with just the 800 the highs are not excessive. A bit higher at louder volume (and maybe that's perception). I'm actually quite happy with the sound on it's own.

It's when I add the extension cab that the highs get super accentuated. I had both cabinets set at 8ohms and was using a 12guage speakon cable -- Is there anything else to it?
