Say, Supa, I thought you looked familiar from another thread! Do you still use the Rumble 75?
.
Wow, I didn't realize that I'd been considering a Rumble since May of 2021! I've been playing through an Aguilar AG700. It's a good sounding amp, but I believe Aguilars are all designed by a dislexic. Who puts the bass knob on the right and treble on the left? And I hate having the DI on the front. The whole amp is just ass backwards. ...anyways, the Rumble should arrive Thursday!

The Rumble 75 is my buddy's house amp. I'll be jamming through it next weekend.

Cheers!

Hi folks. I've been looking for a new head that can handle a 2ohm load. So I've been eyeing the Rumble 800. It's always $749 new. I just stumbled across a seller on Reverb who is only asking $637 new. I'm a little leary because it seems too good to be true. Have you seen other retailers drop the price? What's your thoughts?

Thanks, Supa

So, Supey, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

I actually got mine from a seller on Amazon for $699 plus I had over a $100 in points, so I jumped on it. A week later it was back to $749 from the same seller, just a week long sale and I got lucky I looked when I did. But I haven't seen it as low as $637. But I suspect it is still above the sellers cost.

Can I ask where yopu bought the grill cloth? I'd like to see their entire range.

I found this pattern on Amazon - I searched all kinds of patterns from many vendors and settled on this design, but it was not easy to decide.

There's some really cool patterns to be considered - I just put in a generic search phrase like "fabric +spandex +pattern" and all sorts of options will be returned.

You WILL need a staple gun & staple, staple remover & staples if you don't already have these. I purchased this one along with the fabric. I went 2-yards of fabric, since I had 2 cabinets to cover. 1-yard will be way more than enough for a single speaker cabinet - even if you messed up a couple times and wanted to try it again with a fresh piece. Had I realized this from the start, I could have done both cabinets with a single yard of fabric.

If there's one other piece of advice I could offer if you decide to do this particular pattern is that the black/straight vertical lines incorporated into the fabric require an extra level of attention to detail to make sure they stay straight as possible when you are stapling the pattern down. All in all, it wasn't too bad. I think the worst part of the job by far was removing all the staples from the velcro strips on the back of the speaker frame. They used at LEAST 6-8 staples to secure every single piece of velcro, even the little strips - this is WAY overkill in my opinion. But nothing wrong with being overbuilt for the job I suppose.

Caught the bug to mod my grill cloth - inspired by other's pics in the Rumble Club.

Here's my 200c:

I really like this design. I never thought about changing the grill cloth.

I haven't thought about changing my Rumble grill cloth, either. But, if I do, I know where to shop and who to buy from. Mrs. Dog has several years' collection in her "stash" of materials! She could even make something custom for me!! This is just one wall of her sewing room:

One last thing - the thinnest material is of course spandex. The material I used is more cloth-like, but still thinner than the original speaker grill wheat-weave material.

Spandex would of course offer the least in sound dampening, due to the thinness of the material.

If there is sound dampening going on with the cloth, it's pretty minimal to my ears and certainly nothing that turning up the highs/mids couldn't easily overcome. I didn't notice anything in a mix/live setting with my band.

But something to consider I suppose, for the audiophile crowd.

Great idea! A local fabric shop would be an excellent choice to find some cool patterns!

Or even better - the family fabric shop! :)

How many sewing machines does she have? (I think I've got more of them than instruments, of which there are 15 plus two drumsets -- only 3 BG and 1 EUB. However, the number of each tend to change when I try to count!)

Mrs. Dog is obviously a quilter.

So is my 88 y/o mother and one of my sisters.

I'll take a handmade quilt over any commercially made blanket.
