Fender Rumble Club

I've sold a few things, but kept far more, and learnme a lot about what works and doesn't, and why, for me.
As for the Rumble 100, I fully agree. I paid more for my first (used) 100 than my second (new) one, also bought during that sale. As much as I'd love a good tube amp (or a Sunn or Acoustic SS amp) with a large cabinet, I can't justify the money (or room at home!) for such. The Rumble works just fine for me.
I can't justify moving the heavy tube head and cab [stuff] for our one-night, load inandout gigs.

I finally had enough with the sticky knobs on my Rumble 500 and figured I'd try to clean them and if I ruined them I'd get after-market replacements.

I used non-acetone nail polish remover and a rag. The nail polish remover softened the gooey-rubberized paint enough that I could rub it off with the rag. It was kind of like getting label residue off of a jar. I wet the rag with the remover and used my thumbnail to push the rag through each of the flutes on each knob. I then rinsed all the knobs in water to wash off the remover and dried them.

Seems to have worked. A few days later and the knobs still feel like hard plastic, not the rubberized feel they had when new, but they are no longer sticky. Plus the knobs don't seem to have suffered - they look fine, the painted indicators were unaffected.
I've done this to all 3 of my Rumbles[40, 100, 200c]. I left the stock knobs on the MUTE channel. The black knobs are slightly smaller leaving more room for my fat little fingers. Also the 90 degree adapter-it normally faces forward-allows me to run my cable under the handle, sorta outta the way.

Howdy!

I’m a relatively new user to Talkbass, but a long time user of a Fender Rumble [150] 1x15 v2. It was a good amp though big and heavy and not super versatile, although I had a good fundamental tone live. ... ... , honestly, I was trying to buy ANYTHING other than another rumble just because I wanted to be different. ... ... , I finally settled on the [Rumble 200] V3 115 although I still need to be different so I swapped the knobs:

IMG_1006.jpeg-01.jpeg IMG_1007.jpeg-01.jpeg

I still get that nice fundamental tone in the mix, although Id say with more character. The increased portability is nice too! I picked this over a MarkBass combo that was nearly $400 more expensive because there was not $400 more worth of tone is the MB. I also have to add that the wife really approves of the headphone jack feature, which theMB did not have

Howdy, BK! @BKsGarageBand, you are now member #1738 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Yeah, bro, the V2 Rumble 150 1x15 is a great sounding amp, but a bit bulky & heavy. I'm sure the V3 Rumble 200 1x15 must feel like something's missing with its light weight, but at 140 watts by itself, it's actually quite comparable to the V2 150! And you'll see, in the Rumble Modifications section of your Wiki, that others here have also done the BlackFace knob replacement!

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, BK, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to .... ... ...

Rumble On!

Hi Folks!

I am new to talkbass, I stumbled across the forum recently looking for information about rumble gear to help with a purchasing decision. Anyway I did order a Rumble 800HD and 15" Rumble cabinet. I am eagerly awaiting delivery.

I have a Rumble 25 at home for practice.

I also own a '74 Bassman 100 head, and the 4 x 12 cabinet. She is 50 years old this year! For years I gigged with this head and a JBL 15" speaker in a bespoke cabinet. While I love the Bassman's tone, it is too heavy to be practical when compared to what is available these days. Vintage valve amps really are a labour of love.

I am getting back into playing after not much for 20 years or so, enjoying it! Gigs soon, hence the new amp.

Cheers Poida

Welcome to the world of Rumble! G-Dog will be along shortly to get you your Rumble Club number. It will have a link to the Fender Rumble Wiki page (if you haven't been there already!). Be sure to go through and lean all the neat little bits of info. Note the Rumble V3 Frequency Info. Great info in there.

Something to keep in mind, the Rumble 15" cabinet is rated at 300W. Your 800HD will deliver 400W. Use with caution!

Aloha, Poi! @Poida, you are now member #1739 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Club in particular! Ya know, RL5 makes a very good point, as I have many times too, about being careful not to overpower the 300w Rumble 115 cab with that 400w Rumble 800HD. You might want to reconsider and trade the 115 toward a 210 cab! I was once a 15" snob, mostly Bassman, but 10 years ago the 210 of my Rumble 500 combo so richly handling my low B 5-string bass made a Rumble 10" believer out of me! And don't worry about the 210 cab's official 350w rating, it's the same speakers in the 400w Rumble Stage 800 combo and it's matching black-grill 210 cab, which can also see 400w. So, 7ender is obviously confident they can take it!!!

Oh, and you might want to introduce your Bassman rig in the Fender Bassman Club to join up there, too. In fact, you can browse the TalkBass Clubs & Special Interest Groups INDEX for all kinds of threads you might want to check into. ;)

So, Poidy, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

^RL thanks for the word, noted on that, it is likely overpowered for my immediate needs. I'll be keeping the volume down anyway. Touch wood. Purchasing decisions more based on price and availability down here in the antipodes.

^G-Dog thanks for warm welcome. I'm based on east coast Australia. I tend to get involved in power-pop outfits, seems to be my groove. Up for playing anything, however. Yeah a trade with a 500 combo later may be on the cards. The drummer I am with right now is a super loud cracker of drums, I didn't want to err on the low side.

I dunno, Poidexter, this seems to indicate that you may have erred on the low side with the R115 cab! Trying to "keep the volume down", touching wood, crossing fingers & hoping, in the situation you describe seems very dangerous! And don't trust "turning up the volume just halfway"!!! Non-linear pots could still give you up to 80-90% of full capacity and still damage the R115 cab!

A better approach might could be to set the Impedance Switch on the back of the R800HD to 2 ohm, even though you have only a single 8 ohm cab connected. That will, at least, lower the voltage in the head and produce "something less" than 400w into the cab. I dunno exactly how much less, no one I know has done the math, and it could possibly still be damaging to the R115 cab! Better to trade the R115 cab for a R210 cab sooner, rather than later, before it's too late! :rollno:

And I didn't suggest trading anything for a Rumble 500 combo!?!? Although, the R500c could only put up to 250w into the R115 cab, so no danger there. And the R500c alone at 350w is almost as much as the 400w R800HD with a single 8 ohm cab. In fact, I believe you could probably actually get louder, more safely, out of the R500c alone than the R800HD with the R115!! Or, if you keep the R115 cab, you could trade the R800HD for a R500c and have a 500w stack sure to be louder than the R800HD with a single 8 ohm cab!! But, of course, you'd never get the 800w levels that you could with the R800HD and two 400w capable 8 ohm cabs. Choices, choices, choices ... ... ...

Good luck!

Hello everyone.

I'm new to Talk Bass and the Rumble page but glad to be here!

I dont know if its a mid-life crisis or just having more time on my hands now that made me want to dive back into music? Perhaps i just got tired of schlepping all my gear around without ever using it.

I acquired a bass from a friend but had no amp to play it through. So i went on a search for one single amp to play my new bass and also my old guitars through. I kept reading reviews of these Rumbles and after watching many videos of both bass and guitars being played on them (after selling my Marshall Valvestate half stack) i just picked up a shiny new Rumble 100. So far, I'm in love with it! So I've been lurking on here reading all the great info you have mined on these amps. Suffice it to say, I'm hooked.

Hoping to chat with you all and learn what you have come to love/not love about your gear.

Cheers!

Mostly yes, this site and youtube. I feel like every google search kept bringing me back to this page, so clearly y'all have some well regarded information here.

Years ago I was gifted an Aspen version of a P bass. I've farted around with my buddys bass when we were in a rock band together a lifetime ago. I've never played it out or even with another musician due to never having an amp! I still have my Epiphone LP that was my main piece and a cheap-o knockoff strat (which suprisingly sounds decent) after selling my squire tele years ago.

My skills have fallen off as I basically gave it all up (but couldn't quite bring myself to sell all my gear) but I'm trying to dive back in and am hoping bass/guitar playing, uke and cajon get me writing and creating again. My Rumble seems like a great way to simplify my setup so I'm not feeling overwhelmed by my gear.

I've got some time on my hands now and well, you know what they say about idle hands...

A Rumble 100 should offer a great start to your journey.

Plugged in to my Rumble 200 I bought used in 2020 (it's a 2018) and it sounded like a blown speaker. Kind of panicked because I have no funds now for a new amp, but I settled down and remembered this had happened before. Last time it was when I had my 115 ext cab hooked up also and it wound up being the window rattling not the amp.
I had cleaned the small room I now practice in and moved some things, so I went around and moved things again and the sound is gone it was something vibrating! Thank god, tragedy averted. They are called Rumbles after all.
A question, if the speaker had blown, could I have unplugged it internally and ran my 115 ext cab without the internal speaker hooked up, that is through the ext. speaker output, with the internal speaker disconnected?
Photo for fun.....
