Fender Rumble Club

Thanks to this group, I decided to use the effects loop to run my 100 and 500c together this morning. This sounds awesome. I was considering getting the 800c but honestly this setup gives me all the volume I imagine I'll ever need and then some. The only issue I had was there was some slight rattling coming from the grille on the 100. Any fixes for this?

Cheerio, Ken. @Kenny056, you are now member #1760 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Ken, try compressing the staples in the area of the grill cloth frame with the rattle. Otherwise, some Rumblers have added a few more velcro pairs between the originals. Hope this helps.

How about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

I have attached my current so called rig. I have a Rumble 60 lined into a 1970's 30watt Kustom 1 bass amp It is surprisingly got some volume. I am on the search for a new amp. I have been eyeballing the Rumble 800 combo vs the Stage 800.....analog vs digital. Can I get some opinions on the which? Is a modeling amp worth it? Or should I to the Rumble 800 head and the 210 700 cabinet? I know lots of questions in one post. Been interesting getting back into my old band after 25+ years. Thanks for the assist folks!
"So-called rig?" Nah. It's a rig. A rig is a rig is a rig. It doesn't have to be a wall of Rumbles or anything over the top.

I've been playing bass for just over 20 years. I started when I was in Jr high and had several bands over the years. I mostly just played at home for the last few years until our church music director heard from my wife that I play bass. I started playing with the church choir probably 2 years ago. I have a 2x12 Genz Benz rig that I knew would be total overkill for that setting. A quick Google search showed that the Rumble line was highly regarded. I found a 40 for sale and used that until a keyboard player somehow managed to trash it. I still need to contact Fender to see what can be done with it. I have 3 small children that would love to put it to use with their band.

After the 40 was toast, I went and picked up a 100. The 40 handled church just fine. I was always running to the board, so I just needed it as a monitor. I decided that the 100 was better sized to use as a seat lol.

I started playing with a jazz trio 2 months ago. The 100 handled practice fine. We started playing a few shows around town and I decided I wanted something a little more capable. I picked up a 200 from GC but decided to swap it for a 500. We have a show at the end of the month. This will be my first performance with it. I can't help but drool over the 800c. I'll probably never need the additional power, but if I did then I would just take my Genz Benz rig. I still can't help but wonder if I should swap the 500 for the 800. The lighter weight and higher power is very tempting!

... ... ... Not only did you spell Rumble correctly 3 times, no less, but you own a venerable V1 Rumble 60!!! Ooo! Ooo! Please tell me the red pulsing light still works! Those are SO cool! Extra bonus points to you! ... ... ...

Jeez, you didn't react like this when I posted about the V1 R60 I use at band rehearsal @G-Dog! (The red pulsing light still works, too.) Sigh... :(

My most profuse apologies, Bluey! You're perfectly right, I am usually all ga-ga (and not in a ladylike way) over Rumble V1 pulsing red lights! Pics of the lights are greatly appreciated! Ooo! Ooo! But a video would be totally sublime!

I plead @distraction# from pondering your tonal qwexxions at the time of your original introduction. 'Cause, y'know ... ... ...

For those of who like to run pedals through your rumble … can I get some ideas about how you use the Rumbles OD with your pedals?

Do you use it at all? is it always on? Used as a boost? What setting it do you find the most useful? What pedals seem to stack well with it etc …

I realize this is a very pedal specific question. And mostly I am going to need to experiment. But I liked what I heard when I ran my OD pedal and my envelop filterer (separately and together) through the rumbles OD this weekend. Curious how common this is and if there are general best practices. I am new to the game.

You're about to get 7 people giving you 9 different answers...

Like @GonePlaid, I use the OD channel strictly as a mute. My OD I get via an OD pedal run thru the front. My pedal situation involves more than that but that is the simple answer to your question.

Well that's 1 person giving 1 answer.

No, wait! Tim-may also answered the same for Goner, so that's 2 persons giving 1 answer.

Now, that's 3 persons giving 1 answer.

I like OD + vintage and no pedals. Then I have a Sansamp that I run by it’s lonesome since I really haven’t thoroughly learned how to use it; I don’t want other things hiding what the pedal is doing.

Ok, so now it's 4 persons with 2 answers.

And I like a little OD for warmth, sometimes more but not often, occasionally with, or without, the Vintage button, and no pedals. So, I guess I'm the same as Ott.

So, now we're at 5 persons with 2 answers. Uh, oh! We've only got 2 more persons left to give 7 more different answers! I don't think we're gonna make it, Tim- mii!! :wideyed: What'll we do? :roflmao:

I used mine on my 500c for a few tunes at practice last night. I've never been much of an effects guy, so matching volume levels between the channels took a little tweaking. I never ran it above 12 o'clock. It got a little too fuzzy for the stuff we're playing, but 12 o'clock and below sounded good with my Sire P5 with flats. I'm going to continue to experiment with it some more. I have a Tech 21 VT Bass that I'll try it in conjunction with.

Shouldn't have been too hard, Ken. Ya know, they got a knob specifically for that "matching volume Levels" tweaking:

Well, that's now 6 persons with 3 answers. No, wait, let's call the Tech 21 another answer! So, that's 6 persons with 4 answers.

r100, using OD "as needed" for some songs/parts. Nothing "metal", just a bit of a volume bump and "hair".
Kit P with flats. no voice buttonz, compressor pedal almost always ON.
disclaimer: dunno if my answer fits into any answers before :D

Well, you're the 7th person, but I don't think we can truthfully say you have 5 new answers. How about we stretch a bit and call yours 1 of the same and 2 new ones? ;)

So, that's 7 persons with 6 answers. Getting close, Timbo!

OK, here's my $.02: I used to use the OD 'circuit' for 1(one)tune* we did most nights-if we were at a venue where I could run the footswitch(space considerations). We haven't done that tune for months; most places I already have too many wires/cables underfoot; I half sit on a stool these days since my knees have become more questionable; and-most importantly-I became aware of the the MUTE function.
FWIW, VINTAGE always ON; BRIGHT-depending on room 'boominess'-for PRESENCE.

This will be a two-parter on how I use OD and pedals:

Up until recently, I never used the onboard overdrive. Not as a drive and not as a mute button either. Instead, I always had the vintage button pressed and used pedals (at the very least I have a tuner that mutes my signal if I need it, an EBS octabass and a DOD 250-clone for drive on my board). Worked perfectly fine for a long time.

But lately I have been using the overdrive section of the amp to get my basic tone, which is still pretty much clean. To achieve this, I turn down gain AND drive all the way. With my p-bass the way it is, I get some nice compression with just a little bit of hair on it. But as I said, it still sounds mostly clean. With this setting, I have to be much more careful in how I set the pedals. The Octabass alone can push the amp into more distortion than I like. And when it comes to driven sounds, I now prefer to set the gain lower on the pedal and push a bit more volume into the amp to get that to distort more.

It is all a balancing act to get it to sound nice / the way you want, really. But I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be able to use pedals AND switch the amp OD on and off. The combinations will sound different than if you only used pedals into a clean amp, but maybe that is exactly what you are looking for. Just try it. And if you find a great sound, let us know.
