Fender Rumble Club

He all, got a strange issue happening with my Rumble 500 head. When I switch it on, I can hear the fan turn on, but the power indicator light is off and I'm not getting any sound from it other than the speaker in the cab engaging when initially switched on. I know everything else in the chain is good, as I swapped in my friend's head and it all worked fine. Can anyone point me in the direction of what might be wrong? Thanks!
That sounds kinda like the situation I had a few years ago with my Rumble 40, when the power switch itself went bad. So I replaced the switch and it has worked fine since. Can't say for sure if it's the same with your amp. If you're adventurous, try the switch. If not, I'd follow @G-Dog 's advice and take it to your friendly authorized Fender Service Center.

Yes, John, and I've linked your power switch replacement to your Rumble Club Wiki page in the Modifications section for easy reference. Thank you. 👍

@Never2Late, I read your cabinet re-bracing story of a pawn shop Rumble in your Rumble 500v3 bad sound, ... - what I found and fixed thread and think it important to share here in The Club.

At first, I was shocked that you even bought it, after reading about your in-store tryout! But, reading later of your tech experience made it all make more sense. I trust that your repair investment didn't completely negate the assumed bargain pawn shop price you paid?

Such occasional horror stories are why I usually recommend buying [This invalid link has been removed] (2-years to original owner only). But your mention of stripped screws seems to indicate some previous non-qualified repair attempts, too, possibly explaining its pawnshop residency. 🙄

Thanks @G-Dog . Since I already had everything needed for the troubleshooting and repairs, my total out-of-pocket cost was about $5 to replenish my superglue.

The stripped screw holes were for the exterior metal corner guards and one of the feet, in the wood, probably caused by someone over-tightening them, unsuccessfully trying to stop the buzzing/shuffling noises. I came to the same conclusion as you: that's probably why it ended up in a pawn shop.

I did check the screw heads on the amp and drivers at the store, and luckily none were touched so I wasn't dealing with botched attempted electronics repairs!

The biggest investment in the repair was my labor, which I mostly enjoyed and found fulfilling. Have you ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? This was Zen and the Art of Amp Repair. 😊

Got the new grill cloth put on the R115 cab. Installed it 90 deg. from stock, that way if (when) I get an R500 combo and stack it sideways it'll match.
Put a pair of vintage USA logos on the cabs. I built the fEARful, so that's USA made, kinda cheating on the Indonesian R115 cab tho... :D
Drug out my trusty fEARful 115 and stacked it up... it's a Rumbler fer sure...

I'm trying to decide between the Rumble 40 and 100. I'm not a fan of headphone practice, can the 100 get down to bedroom volumes with the speaker?
Oh, heck, yeah. I've played it quietly enough I had to have my head fairly close in front of the speaker to hear clearly.

No, iirc he was listening for hum when someone banged out a chord. Still, volume knobs can be bumped.
I only do such things alone with the amp positioned such that’s nearly impossible.

That said, my hearing has survived much worse - like a C5 spooling up its engines near the end of an air show day when my wife, two young children and I were less than 50 feet from the closest one. Some airman should have been in deep doodoo over that. I try to avoid potentially damaging situations.

Absolutely, IMO. The R100 can just hit its “sweetspot” at about 80 dB (measured at 3 feet away and on-axis) in a 12 x 12 studio. That translates to gain at 2:00, tone controls at 12, except treble at 10:00, no mode buttons engaged, and volume at 9:30 in my studio.

Edit: Fender Jazz with Pure Vintage 62s, neck pickup 100%, bridge pickup at about 50%, tone control at about 50%, open E, using a medium pick with moderate downstroke force.

I've got the vintage Brown (Palomino) Nubtex and I have both the Wheat and Oxblood grill cloth. Seeing the cream versions is making me think, maybe I could refinish my R40, or get the R25 that someone is selling locally. Should I refinish one with Brown and Oxblood? How about Brown with Wheat? (That would look like my Brown Princeton.) I might get some of the Vanilla (Cream) Nubtex with either grill cloth.

Arrgg! I've got too many projects open right now to think about this stuff!
