Fender Rumble Club

Nice, some stuff still just works like it did ‘back in the day’.
Haven’t bought an actual bass amp in a long time.
Definitely going to get the Rumble 100 now. Will be nice to actually vibrate some real air while practicing or recording.
Headphones are hard to vibe to all the time.
Let the thread know when you get it. @G-Dog loves handing out nicknames and numbers.

Yay, AKey-brakey Bass! Sharpie the Cat ain't wrong!! You're close enough! @AK Bass Guy, you are now member #1869 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

How about telling us a bit about yourself, AKey, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

I have Ableton and Logic Pro. I have a gazillion plug-ins. For my tastes, the Two Notes’ Genome is my favorite (you can combine a Bassman and an SVT), followed by Plug-in Alliance’s B15N, and then Ampeg’s Suite. I love the Bergantino IRs from Celestion and the Rumble 500 IR from Two Notes. I think there are demo versions of the plug-ins. You can try before you buy. The plug-ins go on sale in cycles. Wait for a sale, if you are value-conscious. I hope that is helpful.
Awesome! Super pleased to hear GENOME is working out well for you! :)

Somebody stop me! Just ordered the 2x10 Rumble extension cab! Should be here on Wednesday. Updates as they happen.

In the mean time, I finished the dolly for the amp.

And I'm working on a riser. I don't like an amp sitting on the floor, coupled to it.

Cut the wood this morning. Tomorrow, I'll start assembly. I can only work for about a half hour every morning because it's so hot in the summer here in Phoenix.

I use this as a riser now with a stock r100 12" in it: Harley Benton G112Plus Thiele Unloaded
Did convert it to side orientation (handle and feet)
looks good under an r100

Thanks for the warm invite.
I ended up getting the 40 and not the 100 because they didn’t have any 100s in stock at local music shop.
Initially I was concerned, so I plugged into the 40 because I was already there and boy was I surprised to hear that Rumble40.
It was more than loud enough and sounded great. Don’t think I ever got close to maxing the volume at the shop.
Took it home went through all the basic testing. It going to do exactly what I need with it. I don’t gig much anymore but if I did I would feel comfortable using the Rumble40 for small venues with PA support. Maybe even run the XLR out of the amp to powered speakers. The DI out is warm and meaty a lot of color, I like it, but I can see using my active DI sometimes for a more transparent sound.

As for me, I will try and be short but there’s a lot to cover.
I’m newly a half century old now.
Grew up in the NJ/NY part of the country.
Joined the Army after school, then after that joined the circus for a stint.
Went back home to do the NYC thing for a while, then went hippie and lived out of a van for a while.
Moved to New Mexico for a bit, then took a summer gig at a different circus, then a circus gig in Alaska.
I’ve been in Alaska since 2003 now.
As far as work goes I work in live production, been doing that for a long while.
As for music I’ve been messing with that since I was a kid, never went big time or did it as full time gig but I’ve had plenty of fun playing some of the local bluegrass and jam festivals.
Haven’t gigged in a long time now. Mostly I’m just dipping my feet into the home studio stuff. Playing and recording stuff for fun.
I might be doing a backing track for a low budget short film soon. No promises whether it will be any good though.

So that’s me.

Wow, AKey! Quite the adventurous past for such a young'un. A couple of my kids have passed the half century mark and, I think, I'd have more grey hair, or less hair altogether, if they'd lived your life! 😳 Even run away with the circus, huh? 🤩 Woo hoo! Welcome, again. 👍

Anchorage. Love it here too. Love the vibe up here. It’s also nice being in a city that still has some nature.
Moose in the yard sometimes, birds, occasionally bear and wolf.
20min drive south gets right back into the wilderness.
Shipping costs are terrible though. Good luck trying to get batteries shipped up here.

Edit: Someone is going to be late to work because of a baby black bear in the road holding up traffic, lol.😂

Here is a pic of the neighborhood in the beginning of summer.
No editing to picture. That’s what it looked like.

Our daughter used to live in a house grandfathered in when teh Eagle River Nature Preserve was founded. Bear and moose in the yard and even on the porches were normal.
We get some of those sunsets here in the Austin area, too. One of my favorite visual memories in Alaska was crossing the river at midnight in July with the sun setting just a bit into the water. I can't find a photo.

new contenders?
30-200W lightweight combos I've seen recently came out from Laney:

price seems to approx. match an r100 for the 12" 100W (in the UK, pounds)

$649 at Sweetwater, which is more in line with the Rumble 500 $679).

*** NOTE ***

Daisy Chaining both Rumbles now using the DI out of the Rumble 40 into the effects return of the Rumble 200 and its amazing! See the pics

I was asking earlier in a post about how to use both the 40 and the 200 at the same time and I've found since the 40 doesnt have an effects loop, I can use the DI out of it into the effects return of the 200 and it works magnificently. The only issue was obtaining an XLR to 1/4" 3 ft cable to connect the DI to the effects return on the 200 and viola!View attachment 3686707
Zombie post revival….
Is the cable between the amps, XLR to TRS balanced or XLR to TS unbalanced with pin 3 grounded out?
Was thinking that I would do this if I had to gig with a drummer.

Let me include a modification question while posting.
Anyone install a speaker mute switch on a Rumble combo?
Like how plugging in headphones works. Would love to be able to use the DI sometimes but not the speaker.
Usually the switch on the headphone jack is just closing a circuit when the 1/8” is plugged in.

FX Return is TS unbalanced.

I believe the standard answer is to plug a plain 1/8" TSD jack into the headphones port. You could also just plug phones in.

balanced looks like + - GND
+ > +
- > inverse +
GND > GND

So if I had to make a cable for this, it would be + to + (2 to tip) GND to GND (1 to sleeve), omit - (3)
Numbers are for XLR pins.

Just don't do GND to signal (tip). If You swap + and -, there would be phase cancelling (will sound bad).

I familiar with XLR, TRS, and TS wiring, but wiring diagrams I’ve seen for wiring balanced to unbalanced sometimes has pin 3 of the XLR ( the cold or negative whatever you want to call it) going to the ground because it isn’t used or the cold wire is just ignored.

Just curious if grounding out pin 3 on the XLR is done for reason.
