The 500 has arrived! Time for a bit of fun...
...I've put the old Rumble 100 V2 in one of the pictures. Amazing how loud (& how much lighter!) the 500 is.![]()
All of those have nothing to do with speakerswith different temperatures, pressures and room volumes.
Exactly. I'd use the wording brain instead of ears. Ears breaking in would mean permanent hearing loss! That's not speakers breaking in, that's your ears breaking in to those speakers.
Let's hope so, I've seen materials permanently change attributes with temperature. Specially rubbers getting fragile. You're right. I changed the word ears to brain.
As for the stiffness, it would be an even worse material choice if new material became significantly softer after being used for a moment. To me it would imply it's breaking, not just breaking in. At least stiffness changes that follow temperature are reversible.
Well, I assumed temperature changes that are not extreme and within operating temperature range.Let's hope so, I've seen materials permanently change attributes with temperature. Specially rubbers getting fragile.
Both are real. They're not mutually exclusive.Nope. Take the speaker outside, let it cool down (make sure it's not below freezing and that make sure that there's no condensation), bring it inside, play. Then let it warm up. Play again. It will sound different and the difference will be noticeable.
Much more noticeable than the mythical break-in.
I recalled what one manufacturer explained as the reason for recommending break-in and letting the speakers run for a while (before deciding to return them for example). Since you're not used to their sound, they may sound bad at first. As you listen to them, you discover their sound signature and get a feel for them and decide that they're worth it after all, even if you thought they were complete crap at first.
That's not speakers breaking in, that's your brain breaking in to those speakers.

Last time I broke in to a cab, the driver had taken all the $ with him. Or are we talkin' 'bout sumpin' else?Alex Clabber - owner, engineer of Barefaced Audio posted the following in the same thread you mentioned:
